  • WARNING: Great product but you MUST HAVE APPLE HOME HUB to set the settings of this device (5/25/23)
I was so excited to find this product online. It checked many of the feature boxes I wanted. 1. Outdoor motion sensor 2. Matter / Thread compliance - so it would work with my SmartThings and Alexa stuff 3. Uses batteries that CAN be recharged and are easy to find (AAA) 4. Well designed This being my FIRST Matter device, I was eager to see how well it integrated with SmartThings and Amazon Alexa. I am NOT an Apple Home user, though I do have an iPhone and iPad. The device was easy to set up via the SmartThings app, but DID require registration into Apple's ecosystem and would NOT register without accessing the iCloud. Why? Who knows? The advertising claims all these security features, and THEN Eve forces me to register with a cloud service I rarely use. Harumph. Ok. I let it access my iCloud, etc. and moved on. After adding it to SmartThings, the device showed up on Alexa. Hooray! That usually happens with every new device I add. The integration between SmartThings and Alexa has been exceptional. I went into the SmartThings Edit / Driver / Information for the device. No ability to adjust any settings other than the name and room. So I went to the manual to find out how to set up the sensitivity for the device. The manual said I had to download the Eve app. I did. I went to add the device to the Eve app and after scanning the barcode, the app failed and said it requires an Apple Home Pod to add the device. Sigh. In reading further, I found that I could use my iPad as a Home Hub. Great, I thought. I went to my iPad, turned on the "Make Device A Home Pod" setting and tried again. It failed. Longer sigh! It appears that this feature no longer works (or perhaps never worked). I rebooted the iPad, made sure the software and app were up to date and tried again. Fail! Frustration! Weren't these the VERY PROBLEMS Matter was supposed to address? It appears I have four options: 1. Go buy a piece of gear (Apple Home Hub) that I don't want or need. 2. Return the product. 3. Use the product without being able to access the settings. 4. Hope that Eve/SmartThings adds the settings capability to the SmartThings Sensor Matter Edge driver, or Eve creates its own Edge Driver for SmartThings, or allows registration in the Eve app without an Apple Home Hub. By the way, I re-read the Amazon description for the product and learned that the Eve app is required to change the settings for the device. But there is NO MENTION that I would also need a Home Pod device to do so. :-( Dear friends at Eve: You've made a great new sensor. Please consider the following: 1. Please add SETTINGS capabilities to your product without requiring Apple Home Pod for those of us who don't use it. Either fix the Eve app to talk to the SmartThings hub OR create an Eve SmartThings Edge driver for the device. 2. Alternatively, put a physical sensitivity setting on the device in the battery compartment. Not great, but better than NO settings at all. 3. Please add language to your Amazon description above that lets buyers know that an Apple Home Hub is required to fully use the device. For extra points, in version 2 of the device, add a temperature sensor! That would make it even better! Many of your competitors already have that feature. I hope this review gives other potential buyers a heads' up and saves them the frustration and disappointment I experienced. Will I keep the device or return it? I don't know yet. I'm going to test it in a few locations and see I can live with the default sensitivity settings. Sigh. So close, but so far! Early days for Matter / Thread I suppose. Four by four breathing and a walk with the dog will chill me out and restore equanimity. :-) ... show more

  • Excellent Motion Sensor for a Smart Home
The Eve Motion with Matter is an excellent motion sensor for any smart home. With the new Matter standard, Eve products now work not only with Apple HomeKit but also with other smart home platforms such as Samsung SmartThings and Google Home. The motion sensor is a great addition to a smart home for automations. For example, I can have lights in a room turn on when people enter a room, and have the lights turn off after not detecting motion for a certain amount of time. This is especially useful at night so I don’t have to turn on and off lights around my house. The new motion sensor uses the Thread protocol, which I highly recommend. The new protocol is extremely responsive and coverage around my house has been great! One thing to keep in mind is that you need a thread boarder router, but you may already have one and not know like in our case with our HomePod. If you’re looking for a smart motion sensor, I highly recommend the Eve Motion with Matter! ... show more

  • A Subtle yet Significant Upgrade
I was previously using the EcoLink Motion Sensor paired up with my LIFX bulbs enabled by my Smartthings V2 to turn on and off the lights of my staircase. With a couple of the Eve Motion Sensors paired with an Eve Switch enabled by my apple homepod mini, I am very happy with the results. Everything works flawlessly. The sensor picks up motion just as fast as the EcoLink but the powering of the lights is way faster than my previous WiFi setup. Before there was a little over a 1 second delay in turning on the lights after detecting motion. Now, it is definitely under 1 second, maybe closer to zero. Setting up the automation was not as easy as smartthings but I eventually got it down. You have to download the Eve app for optimal settings. Overall very happy. Can't wait for more thread enabled devices. ... show more

  • Connected via Alexa matter setup with no fuss
Have a old SmartThings hub and a mix of Zigbee\Z-Wave and WiFi pieces to my smart home setup. Wanted to go with Matter going forward and switched to the eero Pro 6E Mesh router. The Eve Motion Sensor connected with the Matter setup via Alexa without a problem. I created an Alexa routine to turn the lights on and off with the Motion and everything works as expected. Seems faster then the old z-wave motion sensor with SmartThings. I really like that they have normal AAA replaceable batteries. They are little pricy for a simple motion sensor but they do seem pretty well built no regrets at this point. ... show more

  • So worth the investment.
I recently purchased it, and I must say it is one of the best smart home accessories I have ever owned. Right out of the box, setup was a breeze and I was up and running in minutes. The motion detection is super reliable and the response time is lightning fast. The build quality is top-notch and it looks absolutely stunning wherever I place it. The sensor has a design that blends in well with my home. It is also compact and easy to install without taking up too much space. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. It has exceeded my expectations in every way and have already ordered more Eve products. So worth the investment. ... show more

  • Okay
Make sure that it updates before continuing. It needs to be within range of a thread router in order to work properly. Otherwise it errors out all the time. Light sensor is a bit slow to register and the 9m range is more like 3-4m range in a hallway setting.
