After some trial and error with drill motors (my Makita's don't have enough torque), I have had this unit on the ice for about 2 1/2 months now. It really cuts like a dream and is so much lighter to carry than my Eskimo propane auger. I had back surgery last September and lugging my previous auger was killer. I went from a 28 pound auger to a 6 pound auger (with drill motor) and that is a lifesaver. I did have an issue with the auger cutting best on a slight angle as opposed to straight up and down. One call to customer service and the problem was resolved immediately. Five more stars to Eskimo for their customer service! This thing is awesome and so much less expensive than an electric auger. Lightweight, comfortable to use if you pay attention to manufacturer instructions, tork, power, pressure applied to the bit, etc. Mine performed well on 7-10 inches of black ice. Drilled over 15 holes in couple minutes with no effort. Blades razor sharp, well balanced, chewed the ice in no time. The auger is very light and worked great. Except one of the blades came lose from it's location. The supplier were very kind to send me a new set of blades. I do recommend of that happen to you, you need to hold down screws and lock tight them so they don't come off while your drilling. Maybe it was an isolated incident? ... show more

I have 3 ga heavy augers. This is the best way to go. Instead of 20 pounds, 4 pounds to carry around is great. Should of got it a long time ago. Anyone would appreciate this. I cut hundreds of holes in the season with it. The best out of all the augers I have and used in my 20 years. Spend $300 on a good drill is the other trick. I spent $100 on the drill and it not the best. Milwaukee is the one I finally bought and it is like cutting butter. 3" to 12" of ice is NO PROBLEM. ... show more

I purchased this auger to be powered by my Milwaukee18v 1/2 hammer drill with 2 handles. The ice in Northern Alaska gets very thick. I recently went ice fishing and drilled 6 holes and still had 4 bars on my 4ah battery. The holes were cut very quick and accurate. It didn't skip across the ice or any other craziness. When I tried cutting through some previously drilled holes there were some choice words when the auger kept getting caught on the sides of the hole. This thing absolutely rips. I use it with a standard Dewalt drill and a 20V, 5AH battery and it has no issues. It does not get stuck like a metal auger and is way faster and more reliable than a gas auger. You do not need the additional chuck mounted grip, I get plenty of leverage just holding the drill with both hands ... show more
