  • The Kringle Caper - Christmas Fun!
Style: The Kringle Caper
The Kringle Caper is the original Holiday Hijinks series release (but it's the 3rd in the series that my wife and I have played). This was a rather fun way to spend an hour (or more) during Christmas weekend. Much like the Deckscape series, the Holiday Hijinks series packs a lot of punch into a small deck of cards (and I do mean SMALL!). The story was silly. That's okay. Nobody expects a literary thriller in these types of games. The puzzles made up for it. The Kringle Caper is an intermediate level game (level 2 of 3). We never had to use any hints--though occasionally my wife would look at one "just to make sure" we were on the right track and not spinning our wheels for nothing--but overall the puzzles were straightforward and solvable with a little bit of gray matter. One puzzle was a little tricky. Another one was... well... not quite correct? I mean, we deduced the correct answer, but the path through the workshop didn't quite make sense. The next morning, I went online and looked at all the hints for that puzzle, and although the final solution was given, the correct path through the workshop was not (grrr!). That was a little frustrating; but at least we figured out the important part of the clues. Anyway, the two worst criticisms of this game that I can make are: (1) this is not really an "escape room" game, even though that's what it says on the package, and (2) I wish the cards were bigger in size. Those two criticisms are true of all three Holiday Hijinks games we've played. I would prefer less (i.e. elimination of) reliance on the app, but I have to admit that they don't abuse it. And, as others have mentioned, nothing is destroyed during the game (at least it doesn't have to be), so you can just pack things up when you're finished and pass it on to another family member, friend, or a local thrift shop. We enjoyed The Kringle Caper (and the others we've played), and hope they come out with many, many more of these games. I personally also hope they do "repeats" of major holidays (like "The Kringle Caper II", "The Reindeer Revolt", "The Elf Encounter", "The Snooty Snowmen", or similar titles as additional Christmas themes, for example). In other words, make some of these into a semi-recurring tradition for people to play over the holidays. ... show more

  • Quite Fun But A Little Challenging
Style: The Kringle Caper
Bought this for my family to play during the holiday season. Took us about an hour and a half spread over 2 days. My wife and I really enjoyed it. My 8 and 10 year old kids checked out a few times during some of the harder clues, but all-in-all had fun. But I definitely would say if you are going to play with kids they need to be 10+ to probably not get frustrated. After we completed it we recorded our time on a note card and then passed the game along to some friends. They recorded their time and then we passed it onto some more friends. We'll probably keep doing so next year just to allow more people to experience it since you obviously can only play it once. All-in-all I would recommend and would purchase again. We likely will try one of the other holiday versions too ... show more

  • Amazing, except for the last puzzle
Style: The Kringle Caper
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this game - the technology integration, ease of playing, the riddles, etc. I think it is incredibly well done, and just challenging enough where it is not the most difficult, but you feel accomplished completing the puzzles (we have done quite a few escape games too). That being said, we did not enjoy the last puzzle. Not going to give any hints or spoilers, but this is just our personal opinion. Still giving 5 stars, and we would definitely be interested in trying another puzzle by from these creators. ... show more

  • This game will really make you think
Style: The Kringle Caper
This game really made me think. But playing it was fun. The only down side that I see is that once you have played it, you're done. But it's a fun seasonal game that you can play with family on Christmas Eve. Just make sure you bring your thinking cap.

  • Not a bad game, but not great
Style: The Cupid Crisis
We pulled The Cupid Crisis game out last night for my husband and I to try. We have played many escape room games from other companies so we were looking forward to a Valentine's Day themed game. You need to have access to a smart phone or a computer to play it. The app you use has hints, but several of the hints were not really helpful. Especially the last problem. We used ALL the hints for the last problem, worked on it for an hour, and even when we finally clicked "tell me the answer" we STILL don't understand how they got that answer. Are we dumb? Maybe. But it is still frustrating that there was no explanation of how that answer was reached. Normally if we get stuck we can go online to walkthrus for help. But this game is so new no one has posted how to solve the problems. Another puzzle about chocolates and a nut allergy was hard and time consuming, but we got there in the end. The last puzzle though. I really think the company needs to rethink their hints and add some more information. The description even in the hint seemed misleading. We are in our early 50's and the game took us 3 1/2 hours. I saw people online talking about how the game only took them an hour. Really? It was fun to spend time together, but I wanted to understand what we were missing. I wish I could ask someone to explain how the final puzzle was supposed to be solved. We used the suggested information, but we are still in the dark! If you decide to buy this game, just be warned. Some of the puzzles were good, but that last one sunk our battleship. ... show more

  • Fun Christmas theme game that made us smile
Style: The Kringle Caper
I used this game for an in home date night with my husband. We completed it in just under an hour. We agree with the difficulty rating of 2/3. I want to get another version to play. We both enjoyed playing the game.
