They are made of lightweight aluminum and run like butter across their tracks. The rubber pads are thick and soft, but also grip skis tightly. I'm not at all worried about anything shifting or coming loose while in transport. These ski racks open with a very large push button (so easy to use you won't need to take off your gloves). It extends out from the vehicle about 15". That may not sound like much, but it makes it so much easier to load skis when compared to having to reach awkwardly over the top of your car. The slide-out extender just makes loading up skis so much easier, especially when you are short and have trouble reaching across the top of your car. I can't say for sure how good a quality the locks are, but they will likely serve as enough deterrent for a thief looking for an easy mark. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Great product and super easy to install! I have the Erkul crossbars as well but these racks will attach to any crossbars that have T-bolts. The racks have a slider that easily pull out which does come in handy with lots of skis/boards. Having the slider also makes them super easy to attach to the crossbars. The rubber holding the skis/boards is thick and high quality and holds everything snug. Great customer service too! I had an issue with one of the locks but contacted Erkul and they immediately sent a new rack as a replacement within 2 days. ... show more

Bought for my 2021 Outlander Sport. I bought Erkul roof rack crossbars before. They're the perfect team. Also, since they both have the same anti-theft lock, I can lock them both with the same key. Strongly recommend it!!

Let me start with one minor negative to get it out of the way - contrary to what is listed that package should include, mine was missing instructions manual. I checked the box, checked the bags, checked the rack inside and out and it was not included. It is not a big deal though and if you happen to be missing one as well, here is a link to it that was easy to find: https://www.erkulauto.com/file_installation/ski_carrier_assembly_instructions.pdf With that out of the way, everything else was there and I love this ski rack. Please note that out of the box it is only compatible with the T-track systems which are very common these days from Thule, Yakima, factory racks, etc. just keep in mind that you need to make sure your rack has a T-track so you can install it. I am pretty sure it can be adapted for other mounts as well (after all it is mounted by using 4 bolts), but you would have to do some research for adapters. I love the fact that locks and keys are provided in the set and you don't need to spend any extra money like with other well known brans to purchase their lock cylinders and keys separately - well done to include it! Mounting is very straight forward and quick - slide the four bolts into the t-tracks, put the plastic protective gasket on the bolts, open the carrier and slide it out (by using a lever that allows it to slide), and tighten it from the inside using the two nuts with clamps. Then you are ready to mount your skis/snowboard. Once mounted, it feels solid and made out of non-corrosive parts so it should last a long time. You do need to tighten it well to make sure there is no wobble or movement of any kind. Because of the clamp design and t-bolts there is no way it would become loose but you do need to make sure everything is nice and tight. You can't open or close the rack when the lock is in the open position. Also, the key will not come out if it is open, you need to lock it then the key comes out. I think this is a safety feature; but I think it would be nice to be able to open and close it without the key as well, but I understand that this design enforces security and safety. Couple of things I want to mention which I think would take this product from "great" to "outstanding": - I would prefer it if the protective gaskets were made out of thick rubber rather then plastic. I think it would provide a better grip, better protection, and dampen vibrations better. - The clamps are made out of plastic. They do seem pretty strong, but considering that they are a critical piece of the mounting system and will be often used to mount/dismount the rack, I think it would be better to make them out of metal so they would inspire more confidence long term. Overall, I think this is a great rack and very reasonably priced compared to alternatives. Well designed with sliding rails to make racking skis/board super easy.
