Well I received these fire blankets and they seemed like good quality, solid weave. I put them places like under the stove and by the fireplace. I got to thinking, how do I know these actually work? We had a small grease fire a while back that we were able to get under control luckily. We didn't have fire blankets and the fire extinguisher handle broke when squeezed, which is partly why I wanted blankets since they have less margin for error. I decided to test one since I didn't want to take the chance I throw it over a fire and end up feeding the fire instead. Remember the life preservers that used to sink? The blanket is a decent size, small enough to use comfortably yet big enough to be useful. A multiple is also a good value. Anyway, a set a box on fire outside and let it get decently big. Then I smothered the fire with this blanket. Success! Fire was put out and I did not burn myself. Relevant to note the fire blanket did get discolored from the fire. I realized I assumed this was reusable and now not certain when I think about it. I'll assume it is, but the discolored one is going in my car as a just in case so the unused ones stay inside instead. No burn holes or other damage, but still just in case. This is a review of “Emergency Fire Blanket for Home,2 Pack Fire Suppression Blanket for Kitchen House Cooking Office Camping, Fiberglass Flame Retardant Blanket, Fire Safety Blanket, 39.3 * 39.3” with Hooks”. The item name is to help make any future review hijacking more obvious. These low-cost fiberglass blankets are useful to have around as an alternative to chemical-based fire extinguishers. They work by smothering a fire at its source and starving it of oxygen. These particular blankets also include wall hooks. If you’re considering such blankets, be advised that they have their limitations: - They’re rated for a single use, e.g. smothering a small fire or using as a protective wrapping while running through a burning building. - The common 40” x 40” size (as is the case here) is a bit small as a covering for adults. - They should be kept in the pouches at all times unless in an actual emergency, since they’re basically asbestos blankets that give off microscopic airborne fibers when agitated, which will in turn do terrible things to the lungs. (It’s not a bad idea to rehearse removing them from the pouch ahead of time, but do it outdoors and wear respiratory protection.) - The included wall hooks attach with fancy double-sided tape and are therefore not suitable for all walls. The adhesive may fail over time and/or damage paint/wood finish when a hook is removed. I feel that the respiratory risk from microscopic fibers isn’t really mentioned when it comes to these sorts of blankets. They should be placed/installed close to potentially dangerous areas, but protected from disturbances that might result in fiber release. I imagine curious pets, children, and visitors might be tempted to play with pouches or take the blankets out for inspection, and I’d also want to avoid air currents near windows and doors as well as locations like e.g. refrigerator doors where blankets would be subject to vibrations. Somewhere relatively high up in the middle of a wall would be ideal. These blankets are priced at less than $10 each as of the time of review (early April 2024), which I think is a pretty good deal. Similarly priced alternatives exist and they should be about the same, so I encourage you to shop around before making your purchasing decision. ... show more

This fire blanket is nice and big and easy to use. It comes in a pouch that you can hang on the wall/door with a peel and stick hook. It has black pull straps that you pull down to get the blanket out, unfold and throw it over the fire. I’m hoping to never have to use it, but it’s nice to know it’s here. ... show more

You can not beat this deal of 4 emergency fire blankets. This is like medical or car insurance, you never want to use it, but if you need it you are happy and grateful to have it. Keep one in the kitchen, near the backyard barbecue, even in your car for camping. It would also make excellent housewarming gifts. It’s not something anyone thinks to get for themselves but that everyone will feel better having. Best of all … there is no expiration dates. I got this multipack for home, family and my church kitchen. I like that they come in easy to use packages. Two large eyes allow them to be mounted on a wall, door or cupboard near to stoves and outdoor cooking. The pull straps get the fire blanket out of the package in an instant, no need to figure out instructions in a crisis. One pull and the blanket can quickly smother a small fire. Once cooled, they wipe clean easily and can be folded and put back in the cover for next time.
