Description

Amp up your guitar’s tone life with the same premium electric guitar strings that experienced players worldwide trust to keep their incredible tone longer than any other string available. Unlike other string brands, Elixir Strings coats the whole string. This protects not only the outer string surface but also the gaps between the windings where common tone-deadening gunk typically builds up in other brands’ coated and uncoated guitar strings. Who wouldn’t love more quality playing time between the hassle and cost of string changes? Engineered to endure, these nickel-plated steel electric guitar strings boast a ton of bright, vibrant presence and dynamic punch. Compared to our original POLYWEB Coating, the ultra-thin NANOWEB Coating allows a more traditionally textured, “uncoated” feel. For a slicker, gentler feel, try a set of electric guitar strings with our original POLYWEB Coating, which also feature a warmer tone. Of course, the kind of string you play is all a matter of personal preference. Not sure what tone or feel is right for you? Try them out for yourself, and find your new favorite string from Elixir Strings. For a more in-depth look at what makes our strings so special, scroll to the branded info further down the page. Elixir Strings: Great tone. Long life.

Frequently asked questions

The Elixir Strings Electric Guitar Strings are made with NANOWEB Coating. This is a thin layer of patented coating that helps the strings to resist dirt and sweat, ensuring a bright tone life, smooth feel, and long life. The coating also leads to less finger squeak which is a common problem with traditional strings.

Yes, Elixir Electric Guitar Strings are designed to be versatile and should work with most types of electric guitars. They come in a range of gauges, including Light/Heavy (.010-.052). However, always check your guitar's manufacturer guidelines to ensure you choose the correct string gauge.

Elixir's NANOWEB Coating delivers a bright, lively tone, along with the feel of traditional strings. These strings are designed for a solid balance of volume, performance, and resilience. Despite being coated, they ensure excellent clarity and articulation.

Thanks to the NANOWEB Coating, these strings have a longer lifespan than typical non-coated strings. However, the frequency with which you should change them depends on how often you play. Regular players might need to change their strings every 3-4 months, but for some, they could last up to a year. It's best to change them when you notice the tone starting to dull.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Elixir guitar strings come highly recommended by multiple users who possess both acoustic and electric guitars. Most users have praised the long lifespan of these strings, enabled by Elixir's anti-rust and protective plastic layer technology, which helps them withstand varying humidity levels. One user noted that the best use is for a 12-string set for electric guitars. Some users also highlight that these strings require less retuning and provide a unique, consistent sound that they prefer over traditional ones.

Pros

  • 🎸 Long lifespan, suitable for high-humidity climates
  • 🎵 Rare, unique sound unlike traditional strings
  • 🔧 Requires less retuning
  • 👌 Comfortable for extended play, light on the fingers
  • 💡 Available for rare 12-string electric guitars

Cons

  • 🔍 Plastic coating might interfere with pickups (though impact seems negligible)
  • ⛔ Possible rusting if string’s coating integrity is compromised
  • 😲 Some users might dislike its slick texture

Should I Buy It?

Based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews, it seems Elixir guitar strings are a worthwhile investment for novice or professional guitarists. Their long lifespan, unique sound, and less frequent retuning requirement offer great value. If you're playing in high humidity environments or own a 12-string electric guitar, these strings should be at the top of your list. Just remember to keep your pick and fingernails smooth to maintain the integrity of the strings' coating.

  • Perfect for the jungle
Style: 12 String Light (.010-.046) Size: 1 Pack
I live in the tropics—a literal jungle climate. Additionally, I am familiar with Elixir brand guitar strings, which I use for my 12-string acoustic and my 6-string acoustic. However, this is the first time I ever used Elixir brand ELECTRIC GUITAR strings. Frankly I was extremely worried because it seems that a large group of buyers of this product (steel strings) bought them for their acoustic guitar, it got me curious on the statistics of reviews where people are using the product for its intended purpose. I hope this review doesn't disappoint. So for anyone who wanders to the review section before buying, MY REVIEW IS FOR A 12-STRING SET FOR ELECTRIC GUITARS. There IS a difference and if you don't know, I invite you to do some research before committing to an investment as it could make your guitar sound better and last longer. So, I got a 12-string set for my 12-string electric. I was completely surprised that Elixir made a listing for the instrument because 12-string electrics are relatively rare, unusual, and old-fashioned—meaning it's a forgotten item that most string manufacturers overlook, especially with their flagship sets of strings. Elixir went against the odds and got this product out for weird people like me and it uses the same technology as their popular 6-string set counterparts have. Hurray! That being said, you get steel strings that are slipped into a tight micro-thin layer of plastic. This helps keep finger crud and buildup from getting in-between the winding of wound strings, which is one of the major culprits of strings losing their charming ring. The same plastic layer protects the string from sweaty hands and moisture (please do not dunk your guitar in a body of water), which would otherwise rust your strings and also make them sound dead/dull/bad. Considering that I live in the tropics with crazy humidity levels (normally above 80% everyday), these strings will last maintenance-free (you will still require to TUNE your guitar) for months in comparison to uncoated standard strings that could last about 1 month if I'm lucky. I haven't had my 12-string steel (electric guitar) strings for long enough to determine their longevity, however from my OTHER guitars that use the same brand, I can say that the strings could last a long time. One guitar I restrung back in OCTOBER 2022 and those strings still play and sound great. It's AUGUST 2023 now. I will admit that after such a long time, there is minor blemishing on their phosphor bronze strings, but that is exactly what I consider to be impressive. And I don't consider myself to be a soft/light player, neither. I have similar expectations for my steel strings from Elixir. Now unwound strings do not get the plastic coating, probably because of how awkward it would be if it started shifting. Instead, Elixir treats their strings with an anti-rust nickel coating. My research on their manufacturing process is inconclusive, but their "plain steel" strings (strings without winding) do last considerably longer than the competition. Albeit, they will still rust, but I'm sure one wipe from a dry cloth will lengthen the string life considerably. I don't wipe my strings and they tend to do well on their own. And remember: I live in a jungle climate. These strings feel slick on the fingertips, which some people love or hate. I prefer slick instead of sticky. And now that I mention it, there is a small group of people who HATE these strings with a passion. Realistically, though, people don't have conversations about guitar strings—unless you're talking about your G String. I think any self-respecting guitarist will complain about how their G String is "too loose" or "too tight" or "too sharp" or "too flat" at some point of their life. How at one moment, you feel like "it's there" and then after a bit, it feels like it shifted and now it feels weird. I personally don't like it when mine is "too noticeable". We've all been there. As long as it doesn't snap during your performance is the key. Otherwise you'll be red with embarrassment with your G String hanging down by your knees or ankles. I think these strings are the best. Some say that the plastic coating can interfere with how pickups interact with the strings, which I say that the coating is so thin that the impact on sound is negligible. MY ONLY RECOMMENDATION when using these strings is to make sure your pick and fingernails do not have sharp edges. The moment that the integrity of the coating is compromised, the strings will lose their magic and rust alarmingly faster. Since I ensure that I'm using smooth-edged picks by round sanding the edges with 600 to 1200 to 2000 grit sandpaper (my personal approach), I find that I can play as heavy and aggressively as I want with these strings and nothing bad happens to the coating. So, to wrap up my thoughts, these strings sound beautiful; they feel beautiful; they last a crazy long time; and most important to me: they can easily endure high humidity climates. ... show more

  • Great tone

Coated strings, I haven't used anything like these ever and I have been playing for 18 years. Just didn't trust something that was engineered right the first time and worked. But WOW, broke two sets of stings at a gig and my other guitars were in a different tuning Andi didn't want to mess with them. A member of another band gave me these and again WOW. Have had the same set on my JEM for two months and the tone is still very strong and in pitch. The strings are very smooth also. I have bent them vibrato them pinched them and tried very hard to break them. These are very well engineered strings and the coating is still intact. No fraying or peeling, I was a round wound user. I have even tried Maxima strings in the 90 S . you know the gold plated strings that have an amazing tone. They are now Optima, same string different name. But these Elixir coated string have a beautiful tone and feel.. Get a couple of packs and try a couple of gauges, seams like their 9s are a little beefer than Im used to using. But it could be me. Overall beer good string with beautiful tone and life. Best price I have seem also. ... show more
