My son kept forgetting (or refusing) to take a lock with him while biking to the pool etc. I typically give them a Master combination lock and one of those braided security cables, however those are kind of a pain to carry around especially if he doesn't have a bag. So I found this on Amazon. VERY COMPACT because it coils up well, and I like that it has a little carrier that can mount to the bike. This should make it easier for him to have the lock with him at all times. While this advertises 4 foot, the cable is coiled a lot so it feels like it would take some work to unfurl it out to 4 feet, but it may be doable. In any case the cable seems thick. The lock is easy to re-set to whatever combo you want. I'm not sure but my guess is this could be defeated by a thief like most bike locks can (even the Kryptonite ones) but what I am really looking for here is just something to keep the bike locked on a rack while son is at the pool or the gym, so some punk doesn't just walk up and ride away on the unlocked bike. I'm not trying to deter a thief where my bike is parked outside in Queens all night and the thief is carrying bolt cutters and an angle grinder haha. Price is reasonable. One concern I have is that the plastic "clip" that attaches the cable to the hanging holder will break over time, but we shall see. IF it does, then I think this kind of lock can still just get tossed onto one of the handlebars and hang there, or can probably get clipped around the seatpost too. ... show more

Description says the lock cylinder and lever are made of an anti-rust zinc alloy material. Not sure what a zinc alloy material should feel like but It just feels like a heavy duty plastic material to me. Irregardless, it should not rust since it is not ferrous. Cable is 4 feet long but it would be hard to utilize all 4 feet since it is coiled to such a small diameter. I use it to secure my ebike to a bike rack and also made my own custom length 1/8" steel cable that runs inside both tire rims as well as the seat post. I made the loops big enough to run this cable though the loops to secure it all together. Sure 1/8" isn't that hard to cut with the right cutting tool but it will deter someone from quickly stealing my rims/tires or seat & post. 25+ years ago I bought something just like that to secure just the seat to the bike. Prior, I used to bike to the mall and carry my seat/post around with me. I wasn't that thrilled with the holder. When screwing it on to the seat post with the included philips/hex screwdriver it was already damaging the screw head since the metal is soft (see pic). I switched to a better fitting screwdriver but even with that, the screw head material "gives". I'm considering removing it and replacing the screw with a stainless steel screw. Also, when sliding the cable onto the holder it doesn't stop in the latched position. I have to keep sliding it left/right until it "locks" into place. The first picture on Amazon's page shows TWO holders. I only got the one on the left (next to the screw/hex driver). ... show more

Great way to secure your scooter. Attaches to the handle of the scooter and then locks to the fixed object like a pole or bike rack. Easy to use. No key to keep track of. Good materials and assembly. Have not had any issues with it. Good product.

Nothing positive about this lock other than it IS lightweight. Purchased for locking my children's e-scooters. Tried changing the combination - the lock would not retain the combination - the mechanical components are crudely made. Managed to get the change done - tested it (yes, I had the combination) - could not get the release to work...finally got the lock opened. Put into the holder....slid right out. Incredibly poor manufacturing. Returned to Amazon - thank you Amazon! ... show more
