We are in constant need of electric fence insulators as we expand our pastures, so when I saw this pack on amazon, I decided to give it a try. I’m glad I did! The fence holder pegs are just as good as other more expensive pegs we’ve bought in the past. We use them to screw into trees to make temporary fences, though you have to be careful not to screw them in too quickly (or too deep) or back them out at a bad angle because they will likely break. However, I was not drilling any pilot holes, which probably made the process more finicky. I usually did have to drill pilot holes into denser wood, such as holly. These insulators come with a black drill bit and also a surprisingly nice set of gloves. Size-wise, these gloves are about equivalent to a men's small or a woman's large. This set will be used in addition to t-posts and plastic/fiberglass posts as a sort of ‘temporary’ fence to keep our goats and pigs in a specific area to clear it. Because it is temporary, we don’t tension it or use wooden posts, and the goats stay in just fine— though admittedly, our electric fence box runs 100 miles at 7.1 joules, and packs quite the punch! If you’re looking to set up electric fencing for goats, pigs, dogs, or even chickens, I recommend these fence insulators! They may say "sly like a fox," but they never met the raccoon that climbs the side of my chimney to reach bird feeders on the balcony. Thanks to a low-output electric fence charger and a few dozen feet of 17-gauge wire, though, the masked bandit hasn't been back in a couple of weeks. These little insulators made the process a lot easier and prevent grounding of the hot wire. I only needed a dozen or so of the fifty in the box, and installing them was quick and simple thanks to the ingenious "socket tool" included. I used a cordless drill to install the insulators -- first, drill a 1/8th inch pilot hole, then chuck the plastic socket into the drill and screw in the insulators. The socket is designed to prevent over-tightening. Once each insulator was installed, I turned it by hand to orient the slot to prevent the wire from dropping out. Bare 17-ga wire fits the slots easily. I couldn't find a small enough roll of polywire so I can't comment on whether the insulators work. I also didn't use the included rubberized glove to handle the wire because it wasn't energized at the time. I'd be inclined to use my regular leather gloves, though. Take that, raccoon! ... show more

The screw in electric fence wire insulators from GVCVHVCV are okay except, I had to drill a pilot hole to get them started. They come with a pair of gloves and a drill attachment to screw the insulators in which is handy once you get it started. The threads on the insulators are not the best, not very aggressive for getting it started on its own and it was a wrestling match with the cordless drill. Just drilling a quick hole to get started, made the install go much quicker without struggling. Time will tell how durable these plastic insulators are. ... show more
