  • Quick, easy-to-use, and efficient

I am a medical student with graduate-level experience in signal processing. An early academic project of mine involved work on a portable ECG device, so I have a general understanding of the core ideas and challenges that come with designing such a device. I own a KardiaMobile portable 6L EKG device and a Littmann stethoscope with a tunable diaphragm which provide great points of comparison. My overall experience with this stethoscope is quite positive. I can see it being an useful learning tool as well, saving example EKG AND PCG recordings (simultaneously!!) of heart conditions as I observe them in the clinic. The EKG feature is easy to use, and finds a signal quite quickly (even faster than my KardiaMobile device). While it finds a signal super quick, it'd be nice to have some translation of the 3 plotted leads to the standard EKG leads found on a regular hospital system-- right now it requires some user interpretation. As far as the acoustics on this stethoscope go, it's handy to have the amplification, and I could see how it might help some clinicians with mild hearing loss. The noise-cancelling feature is also handy, reducing some of the artifactual noise you pick up with stethoscopes like the standard Littmann. HOWEVER, I find that turning the noise-cancelling can sometimes help pick up some of the higher-frequency sounds (the pulmonary setting also helps with this). Also, (nitpicking here) I've noticed the diaphragm paired with the Eko signal processing seems to be a bit different than I'm used to with the Littmann, especially on the cardio setting. Higher pressure on the Littmann emphasizes the higher frequency sounds, but on the Eko, it oddly seems to emphasize the lower frequency sounds. Also, sometimes the pressure optimal for clean EKG is not optimal for listening (in some cases). So it might require a little playing around and getting used to. Also, when using the stethoscope head paired with Bluetooth instead of the wired earpiece, there's a slight delay in the connection which is noticeable but at the end of the day is probably not a big deal, and could just be my earbuds. It is still pretty cool to be able to keep the head in my bag or pocket without the earpiece in case I see something interesting I want to record (and its fairly easy to tell on the app whether the acoustic/electric signal quality is good, even without listening). Overall, it's been both super educational and fun working with this stethoscope, and I look forward to using it more! ... show more

  • Total game changer
Color: Silver
I recently purchased and have been using the Eko Core 500 Digital Stethoscope, and it has significantly enhanced my clinical practice. The sound clarity is outstanding, allowing me to hear even the faintest heartbeats and lung sounds with remarkable precision. The digital amplification feature is a game-changer, especially in noisy environments. Additionally, the Bluetooth connectivity and user-friendly interface make recording and sharing auscultations incredibly convenient. Overall, the Eko Core 500 has become an indispensable tool in my daily practice. It's a bit of an investment, but the benefits in terms of diagnostic accuracy and ease of use are well worth it. Highly recommended for healthcare professionals looking for a reliable and advanced stethoscope. ... show more

  • Pretty amazing stuff
Color: Silver
This stethoscope is amazing. The sound quality and clarity on the cardiac and wide modes are phenomenal. I don't love the pulmonary mode though because it picks up too much extra noise caused by the stethoscope rubbing up against the skin as the patient is taking big deep breaths. I've also used the app which is pretty cool. Being able to record the exam, as well as have it play on speakerphone in real time to let the patient near too, is something else. The chestpiece has a button at the top that allows you to instantly record the exam, which is saved into the app. One thing I wish they could do is to allow multiple back to back recordings. Currently, after each recording, you have to go into the app and fill in all the details (e.g., position, location) and save before being able to make another recording. The chestpiece battery duration is impressive. I noticed that when not in use, it turns off automatically to save battery. It also disconnects from bluetooth on the phone when this happens. However, once I woke up the chest piece by pressing the top button, it reconnected to my phone's bluetooth with barely any delay. It also did not have to reboot every time the chest piece was woken up. It's these little time savers that make a big difference because having to take extra steps collectively becomes time consuming. I bought the case from Eko separately. It holds the stethoscope very well. it's pretty big though. But it's a good size to fit my stethoscope as well as my otoscope. I could probably fit my blood pressure cuff in there if I wanted to. Overall great product. Patients found it interesting as well. ... show more

  • Impressed with Eko
Color: Silver
I have been using the Core 500 since last 3 weeks, every day about 20 times. Here's my review - Hardware: Device feels solid in hand and is easy to hold and gives enough control to use on patient's body. The display is high resolution color display and plots standard ECG. The glass seems Gorilla glass. Only time will tell whether it is scratch proof. Ability to toggle between cardiac, pulmonary from the stethoscope is convenient. Features: Amplification and noise cancellation is really good. I work in ER and it can get very noisy certain times of the day. Software: I am not software savvy. I still gave it a chance and downloaded the app from app store. I created an account. After first login, there were too many screens to go through, but most of them is how to use, how to read the results etc. The home page was surprisingly quite intuitive. I had no trouble navigating. I was even able to change device settings from the app itself. The best features are locked behind a paid subscription plan. I wanted to see how good is their AI, so signed up for the subscription. I tested the AI on one of my patients who I knew had arrythmia and immediately after the recording, the device flashed "AFib detected", which was quite impressive. I did not check out the Cardiac Exam feature. If I don't find value in using the app down the road, I'll cancel the plan, but I'll keep my subscription for now. Oh, and I used my airpods through app for listening to lung sounds and it was quite clear. ... show more
