  • Push button start
Amazing. No more buying gas. So easy push button start. Love the new....throw grass high in bagger so it won't clog. Hand controls make it so easy. It's not metal housing so a higher need to be careful but makes it lighter. The ability to stand up and take less space is so very cool. Backing up is not easy but just tilt up and move around on back wheels. Last .....so easy to change hight. ... show more

  • Good power, decent cut, a few design issues
After a trip back down the rabbit hole of trying to keep a gas mower running, I decided to try this out. Overall I find it decent and plan to keep it. Though the mower feels pretty heavy with the battery in it, it isn’t really that hard to push. In fact, I mostly don’t use the self-propelled function on my kind of hilly yard. This is in part by choice and in part because when self propelling there is a lag of about a second before you can pull it backwards, which tests my patience. I bought this with only one battery, figuring that I’d try it out before springing for a second one. Well, one battery is about enough to do half of my half-acre yard, and I will probably get a second one before long. I estimate that the stock charger takes about 3 hours to charge it from dead to full, which means doing the whole yard in a day would be possible, though I haven’t done it yet, and I’m on the fourth week at this point. The blade looks quite light compared to the ones I’m used to on gas mowers. Because of that I’ve been especially careful not to mow over small branches and such the I previously would have. The battery cover seems to stick up unnecessarily high, which can make it harder to mow under obstacles. Mine already has a good scratch on it. I’ve mowed some fairly thick and somewhat wet grass. This seems to work fine, though the battery doesn’t last as long. I find it is sufficiently powerful for what I’ve tried so far, and I estimate that I’m harder on mowers than average. The cut is ok. I don’t really care about a lawn like a putting green, so I don’t mind that I don’t get that. It does seem like it’s a little more prone to missing spots and I often go back over those. I like electric mowers and not having to mess with gas and oil and earplugs and all that. At this point I’m willing to accept the trade offs for that. I am convinced electric mowers are the future. Probably the very near future. At this point we’re still at the early adopter stage I think, and there are some kinks to work through. As far as price goes, I bought mine at a price comparable to competitors. The one I see listed here is maybe a bit above that. I’m not sure how much if any premium I’d be willing to pay for this particular mower over its near-ranked peers. If Echo were to lower the clearance, use a heavier blade, and fix the slow to reverse feature I would be a lot happier. And if the price for the second battery could be trimmed to about $100 I would find that reasonable and attractive. ... show more
