Now that it's installed, its a well built e-bike conversion kit. I've installed it in on a Buzz Novara cross bike originally from REI. Make sure to reference the Ebikeling website for installation instructions as they don't come in the box. I specifically got the Rear/LCD/Thumb kit as I don't intend to use the throttle much. Overall, the quality of the materials is high. The throttle control is plastic so be careful with it. Most everything else is machined aluminum. Motor weighs about 15 pounds. Installation took about 9 hours with a few trips to stores for tools, disassembly of old bike components, securing the battery, and tidying up electrical lines. The only iffy part is the cadence sensor installation for the pedal assist. My bike didn't have a washer available to secure it to my bike crank (your front gear set where you pedal). I had to cut the metal ring for the sensor and use a hose clamp to secure it to the frame. They have a video on their website detailing how to do this. To install the pedal sensor you will also need a crank pulling tool. I picked mine up at REI, but you can find them here as well. You can't install the pedal assist without one. Performance is top notch. On base settings, the pedal assist intensity is set at 3 out of 5. This is different from the 5 pedal assist levels that you select during your ride. You have to go into the settings to change it. It was so powerful, I was getting almost to 16 mph on pedal assist level 1. That's great, but I could barely pedal that fast with the top gear of my crankset. I brought the pedal assist intensity down to 1 out of 5. With that setting, my pedal assist cut off speeds where much more manageable: level 1 - 11 mph, level 2 - 18 mph, level 3 - 24 mph, level 4 - 29/30 mph, and level 5 - probably in the low 30s. The throttle is also limited to your current pedal assist level. You have to increase your level to reach higher speeds on throttle alone (this is a great safety mechanism). On pedal assist mode, the motor only provides assistance as long as your pedaling. It seamlessly cuts off when you coast. A powerful conversion indeed. Interesting note, the motor is absolutely silent under load. Not even the typical electrical motor whine. Every other e-bike or scooter I passed had an engine whine so this is really quite nice!! I coupled this kit with a 20 Ah 48v battery from UPP Ebike Batteries: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081PPC91W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. So far, I've done a 25 mile ride with this kit/battery combination. My battery level is still at 100 percent and I used pedal assist levels 1-3 with no throttle use. This is my first conversion kit so I don't have any experience with other kits to compare it against. I don't have the battery yet so I can't speak to the performance, but from what I can tell this appears to be a very good quality well-made product. Solid workmanship. Previous reviewers have commented that the installation instructions where not very helpful and I would have to agree. Also, if you have experience working on bikes and have good mechanical skills you should be able to do the installation yourself. If not, you will probably find it challenging. Some of the installation requires special tools like for removing the crank, if you want to install the PAS, or the gear hub if you want to change out the original. They are sold separately as a kit from Amazon and don't cost much. Also, I was having a difficult time figuring out a suitable place to mount the controller, but then found that Ebikling sells a very nice controller pouch that worked out great. Amazon doesn't sell Ebikling batteries, at least not that I could find, and I didn’t think to check their website before placing an order for an off-brand battery. Since placing the order, I discovered that the battery connectors will need to be changed when/ if it ever arrives. A minor hassle but hey. Ebikeling does sell their own batteries which I think would have been more suitable. I wish that would have been a selectable option with the kit. I would have paid the extra cost. We live and learn, Happy E-biking! Update: 5/18/20 Received my battery this weekend and after muddling through the poorly translated instructions I finally figured out how to program the controller properly. There are certain parameters that must be set correctly for it to work. I've been out several times and am happy to report that everything is working as I had hoped. I wish the throttle worked independently from the pedal assist level. I still want to pedal my bike for exercise, but sometimes it would be great to get out in front of traffic fast with the throttle and then continue pedaling manually after that. I wish the throttle were not dependent on the pedal assist level. The throttle will only take you to the high end of the level you’re on, so if you want to zoom out to cross a busy street with the throttle, you have to be in the high pedal assist levels already. The throttle is the throttle, and the PAS is the PAS. Separate them, please! One other gripe is that the control buttons have a cable that is like 6 inches long. So your display goes on the center of the handlebars where the stem is, then you can only mount the control buttons, at best, halfway between the stem and where your handle grip is, which is not where it should go. So now you have to remove your hand from the grip to change pas level. I hate that aspect very much. Otherwise great kit. Motor seems solid as a rock and the rim itself was very very trued when I received it and comes with 12ga spokes. Easy to install. ... show more

This company rocks. They actually have customer service! Their product is awesome. I bought two kits so far! No problems at all. They are fast and powerful. Actually had a problem with the throttle. Sent them an email and received a replacement within days. Great power... speed and easy to assemble. Gave two 25 year old mountain bikes new life. I love blowing by these road bike geeks with with their $5k bikes like they are standing still. I have bad knees and the Ebike’s are a blessing. Total build with battery. $500. Shop eBay for batteries. Actually going to buy just a rear motor to upgrade an ebike we had. I trust no one but Ebikeling. Only complaint... instructions limited. You need to do your research on the web for the fine tuning. But it’s worth it. ... show more
