Classic bait and switch. What I received was nothing like what was pictured. I already own an authentic EatSmart Precision scale, used several times daily for 6 years now. It is quality-made. The chrome is truly chrome, not painted or plastic. So happy with my first purchase, I ordered a second. What I received was a plastic unbranded piece of imported crap worth probably 5 bucks. The "buttons" were underneath a silver sticker that was already peeling up. I can't believe reading the other reviews that this had happened to more than just me. What blew me away the most, is the UPC sticker on the side of the box but actually says "EatSmart Precision" only it wasn't. So this wasn't a genuine mistake of some warehouse person grabbing the wrong item. This was a true bait and switch. I had to inconvenience myself and spend my time and gas finding a UPS store to get my refund. I am a very unhappy customer right now. ... show more

    • I have had this scale for years and I love it and recommend it. Great for baking and food logging.

I have had this scale for years now, and I failed to write a review. This scale is one durable little worker and has lived through standing in a puddle, it has been spilled on, it has traveled, and it is currently covered in some grand funk from baking, food portioning, and making smoothies. I use rechargeable batteries and though I use this scale about 3-6 times a day, I change the batteries once a year. It readily switches between Grams, ounces, pounds, and kilograms, making recipes a snap. It is easy to tare the scale back to 0 with a plate or bowl on it, to measure ingredients or track portions for a food log. I totally adore this scale and after years of an abusive and under appreciative relationship, the scale still supports my dietary and baking needs without even a hint of giving up or going rogue. It is no longer the prettiest scale at the spring dance, but it keeps going and doing a great, accurate job weighing stuff. We periodically test it with weights, and it maintains its accuracy. I got this scale back in 2011 and now, after 8 years, am finally writing a review! It's worked fine all of that time, and I have never changed the batteries; it's still rocking the same 2 "heavy duty" non-alkaline AAA. Pros: As mentioned above, it's miserly with energy and batteries seem to last almost forever. If you leave it on, it will eventually power itself off, and in any case the LCD display uses very little energy. This scale is quite easy to use. Just push the On/Tare button to turn it on, then place your item. If you press On/Tare while an item is there, for example an empty plate, it will tare the weight to zero, making it easier to weigh wet foods in a bowl for example. If you are controlling your diet and trying to limit calories, a scale such as this is essential; it's accurate down to a few grams and better than estimating or going by volume. It's not only good for food; I use it to weigh postal items up to 11 lbs or 5 kgs. Very handy because I often have to ship items from home. Cons: There are only a couple of flaws in this product which probably a higher priced model would address, so I'm not complaining but just pointing out, in case it makes a difference to you. 1. Does not remember a reading. It would be so nice if you lifted your item off the scale and it continued to display the weight until you reset it or it powers off. Why is this handy? Because sometimes I do a before-and-after reading; for example weigh some ribs on a plate, eat the meat off the ribs, then weigh the remains to figure out exactly how much meat I consumed. Handy when you're being super picky about calories and quantities. It's not a big deal to stick a Post-it next to it and write down the totals, but just saying, a persistent display would be handy. A bonus feature: retain a history of weights. 2. Display is slightly hard to read at certain angles. It's good enough, but sometimes I have to squint or cock my head to see the LCD. A small price to pay for the low energy consumption, I suppose, but not as easy to use as a bright glowing display. 3. When you place a bowl or plate on the scale and tare it, you can weigh food without getting the scale dirty, but you also can't see the display, as illustrated in the attached photo. If the scale were an inch or two taller, it would be easier to see the display. You have to push the plate toward the edge of the scale and hope it doesn't skew the weight, which I think it generally doesn't, but it does become unstable. One solution would be to use a glass or clear plastic plate. Overall, a really nice little scale that is attractive and holds up well. By the way, unlike what some other reviewers have stated, the labels did not rub off. Perhaps theirs is a different model. In such an event, at least you can use a Sharpie or sticker to make a nice, clear label, problem solved! ... show more

If you buy this please make sure you have a lifetime supply of AAA batteries. I had purchased an OXO kitchen scale back in 2012 from Amazon. In the 4 years I owned it (and we used it a lot) I had to change the batteries ONE TIME. Back in March of this year I dropped the OXO scale and broke it. I found this highly rated scale here on Amazon and ordered it on March 23rd of this year. Since that time I have gone through FOUR SETS of batteries!!! Almost 1 set a month. Is that normal for this scale? If so that is crazy. We like the way the scale operates but I have already spent 1/3rd the cost of what I paid for it for replacement batteries. After the first set I thought maybe it wasn’t shutting off (we kept it in the cabinet) so we left it on the counter and it did shut off and stayed off. I am assuming this scale defective. If it is NOT defective they should supply a lifetime worth of batteries with every purchase. Hopefully it'd just a defective scale and hopefully they will replace it under warranty, I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 only because we like the scale but if this is how it normally devours batteries fugetaboutit! ... show more
