I have used other types of bedding before and the smell always stinks. but this hemp bedding does not have a smell, makes it easy to clean and last longer than other types of bedding. My chickens love it too!

    • Worth it for rats

Several people in rat groups recommended trying to use hemp as a bedding and I have to say it is wonderful. It doesn't smell like shavings do and absorbs really well! Plus it's safe for my rats which have super sensitive respiratory systems. It's more expensive but you can use less.

    • Wouldn't use this brand long term... but Hemp is unbelievable!

I wouldn't buy this brand continually because of how expensive it is for a small-ish bag; we used it as more of a tester bag because we've never tried Hemp before. We've tried a LOT of different beddings for our 3 guinea pigs... aspen, fleece, GuineaDad liners, pine, paper, practically EVERYTHING. But now I think we've finally settled on something! Hemp is unbelievable... it has a nice, pleasant smell to it, but other than that it is pretty scentless. Although it isn't as fluffy as something per-say like pine, it definitely didn't seem uncomfortable. Just add a bit of soft hay like orchard for them to lounge in and snack on and its quite comfortable. Usually, with pine (which has become a problem because of the dust) we clean the cage about every 4-5 days because it stinks up the whole room. But with this, we had it in for 7 and a half days before we cleaned it... and it still didn't stink! We only cleaned it because of the amount of turds. 😆 The bag had absolutely no dust in it, and our only problem was that for the first couple days the pigs started trying to eat a bunch of it, and its supposed to have a very unpleasant taste?? But they stopped after a couple days, so it was fine! 1 bag covered our 10 sq ft cage with a bit left over. Would totally recommend Hemp, but would stick with another brand since its cheaper to buy in bulk. ... show more

I have a brooder with 13 chicks. There’s no smell !! I was extremely concerned about the “chicken smell” seeing as how the brooder is in my living room. There’s literally no smell! I’ve also tried clean coop and compared to hay/straw products Eaton crushes it. The dust from the Clean Coop makes my chicks sneeze. Seeing as chickens are susceptible to respiratory problems that’s not a good sign. So it’s hemp bedding for me. I was shocked at how little dust there was. The downfalls of this stuff is that it’s not cheap and it doesn’t come in larger bags. Even checking the website, the largest amount is 6 bags. At first you think it’s decent savings at 15% off but they hit you with 15$ shipping and your only saving about 8$. I really do love this stuff and want to use it in my large coop but I’m concerned how much money that will cost ( doing the deep litter method and you need 4-6 inch deep) to get the thick layer I need. ... show more

    • Where has this been my whole chicken keeping life!

I have always used large flake pine shavings in my coop and use the deep bedding method (complete clean out every Spring and Fall, otherwise just add shavings as needed). The pine shavings work great, but the dust from them is ridiculous, chickens kick up enough dander on their own. I started looking around for alternatives and found this and on their website they offer 50% off your first order, sold! I got 1 of the big starter bundles which came with 3 bags of bedding, black soldier fly larva, and hemp seeds. I ordered a few more bags from Amazon (same great price) and did my coop clean out for the Fall. Let me tell you about all the dust there ISN'T! It's amazing! It's also very absorbent! I'll never use pine shavings again! ... show more

Great value for money. This bag is huge and will last a long time. I have tried several hemp beddings from various brands and this seems to be the softest and has the least dust. It also has the best odor control for my rats. Will buy again when I eventually run out

I dusted half the light to show how much dust this bedding is with chickens. I had to move my brooder out of my room because I dusted in the morning and by afternoon a layer of dust was right back. I like the hemp bedding for how it absorbs moist better than pine shavings, and is cleaner with poop, but oh my the dust is so bad! Idk how people can say it’s dust free?! What are they doing that I’m not? It’s getting so dusty even after dusting where I can barely breather in the coop if the chicken move around, which I know is bad for them too so if I can’t figure out how to magically make this dust free like others it looks like I’ll have to be going back to pine shavings. ... show more
