Description

Over millions of years of evolution and adaptation, the flora and fauna of this unique planet have grown and developed into amazing life-forms, creating beautiful symbiotic ecosystems and diverse habitats. It's time to create your island: a 4x4 tableau of self-supporting growth, expansion and supply where even the cards you don't need become compost for future gain. OVERVIEW: Earth is an open-world engine builder for 1 to 5 players with simple rules and countless strategic possibilities. With its encyclopedic nature and a near- infinite number of tableau combinations, every single game will allow you to discover new synergies and connections, just as our vast and fascinating world allows us to do! Players will create a self-supporting engine of growth, expansion, and supply by drafting from a deck of over 364 unique cards and strategically placing them in their tableau. STARTING THE GAME - The game begins before the starting hand has even been drafted. Players will receive an Island, Climate, and Ecosystem card during set-up. Using these double-sided cards, each player sows their strategy by selecting one side of the card to place face-up in their play area. The combination of these three cards introduces asymmetry to the game by providing variable starting resources, bonus abilities, and unique end-game scoring objectives. ON YOUR TURN - On their turn, the active player will choose one of four different actions, reaping their major benefits, while all other players welcome the minor benefit. Subsequently, all players activate any cards on their player-board, and in their tableau, which match the color of the chosen action. Players continue taking actions, arranging their Island, sowing Plants and developing Terrains to attract elusive Fauna, and unlock the scoring bonuses of diverse Ecosystems. TRIGGERING END GAME - Once a player has added a sixteenth card to their 4×4 tableau, they earn a completion bonus and trigger the end of the game. All players will tally the victory points they earned from completing Ecosystems, reaching Fauna objectives, Composting cards, gaining Plant cubes and Growth pieces, for their Plant and Terrain values and for Events played. The player with the most victory points wins! Game Playtime (min): 45. Number of Players: 5.

  • Like Wingspan, Better than Terraforming Mars
I love board games and I own and play hundreds each year. This one is great. Let me give you some details without boring you, then some pros and cons and my overall rating: Gameplay If you have played Wingspan and Terraforming Mars(TM), then this game will feel very similar. Although I think it is superior to TM and more friendly to new gamers. In EARTH you are in charge of an island and you are attempting to be the player to create the best symbiotic and efficient island. Each turn the active player will choose one of four actions. S/he will perform the main action and all other players will perform the secondary action. Thus, you are always engaged in the game with almost no down time. You continue to take turns until one person has completed a 4×4 grid of cards. You get points in so many different ways that each game is VERY different and unique. TONS of replayability! Most points wins the game. I have played a couple of times with four people and it takes us about 90 minutes to play. PROS - Very thematic. - Beautiful artwork. - Easy to learn and teach. - Super fun (even when you lose... I guess). - Tons of replayability. - Always actively gaming with something to do on everyone's turn. - Player boards and iconography are really good so you can easily understand cards/actions. CONS - Can create a little AP (analysis paralysis) in some people and slow game down a bit. - Not enough opportunity to play the game more... I really honestly don't have much negative to say! Overall Rating: Two thumbs up. 9.5 out of 10 BGG Rating I am fully supportive of you purchasing this game... you will enjoy it. ... show more

  • One of my new favorite games
This certainly fits into the "Euro-game" category, where the game feels complicated when you first learn how to play, but it all is actually fairly simple. In many ways, this game is a standard engine builder. You are trying to buy cards that will trigger to give you more resources, points, and options. It does this very well and there are multiple strategies that have a good chance of winning the game. For example, I tend to favor using "Terrain" cards that score based on other cards in the tableau, while others focus on building up their "Flora" cards, etc. What makes Earth so much better than many other engine builders is that there is simultaneous play. When you choose an action everyone else gets to take a truncated version of the same action, including triggering their engines. Given that the game has many different possible strategies - and so it subject to analysis paralysis - it means there is no downtime in the game, even if playing with slower or less experienced players. ... show more

  • Love it!
My boyfriend and I played this and it’s very entertaining. It’s completely interactive and there is so much that keeps the game going. I think we’re still trying to navigate the rules a bit bit it’s definitely worth a shot. It’s keeps everyone engaged and really makes you think about your moves as you have to be cautious. It’s almost like chess in a way as you have to think about potential game plays and how it could affect your strategy ... show more

  • Fun engine builder
If you like engine builders then this is for you. Each person has something to do every turn so it can be a little hard to keep track of everything someties but overall a fun game.

  • My favorite board game
I own 50+ games and Earth easily made it into my top three. Game is very dynamic, offers a ton of choices and strategic decisions and in able to finish the game in less than two hours. Very hard to achieve that. So far everyone I've taught this game to has enjoyed it, which is not an easy task for a game this heavy. Amazing design, can't wait to play again! ... show more

  • Extremely clever game
Highly recommend this game for teenagers and adults. It is a beautiful game that you can play by yourself or with a variety of players. It has simple and more advanced game instructions. We started with the simple instructions the first time and enjoyed it so much! It is exciting to know that more challenging scenarios are ahead. It is very different, yet reminds me of another favorite, Wingspan. Watching a video with instructions before you play the first time makes it easier. It is extremely enjoyable! ... show more
