I plan to use this as a storage for rain water. It holds a good amount of water and is easy to clean. Rainwater has foreign matter in the as it comes off the roof. Periodic cleaning is necessary even if a bleach compound has been added, The lid has a good gasket seal all around the top which is easy to remove and replace. The metal clamp ring which holds the lid and gasket ring in place is sturdy and has a secure clamp which is effective against animal intruders. ... show more

    • Rain Barrel - Very Good product (not perfect).

I used this to create a Rain Barrel. Pros: 1. Brand New Quality Plastic container. 2. Plastic lid was easy to cut into. 3. Had an existing circle (marked) to illustrate the spigot location. Cons: 1. The lid ring is plastic as well--it appears to be metal in the pictures. This is not a problem; however with the hot sun I can I tell this will be the first part to go. Saying that it probably won't be a problem long term. 2. The lid itself it not flat, it's very warped plastic. While this isn't a problem, I will have some areas of standing water. Rain Barrel process that I followed (I am not an expert on this subject matter). I did a lot of research online prior to making my own rain barrel, versus buying a pre-fabricated one on Amazon. Most of the reviews had some complaint about the spigot (leaking / not being brass / breaking etc) or that the bottom cracked out. I don't foresee these problems. I recommend buying the spigot that appears with the barrel (RainPro Brass Spigot). The only real "magic" to this device is the seal it makes with the rain barrel itself (product pictures will further illustrate this). The spigot 1/4 turn is a nice feature as well. If you needed to just change the spigot for any reason--you could easily do so and the seal in the rain barrel will be fine. Actual Process: 1. The barrel has a circle near the bottom where the spigot should go--this is where you will drill a hole for the spigot. 2. Cut a circle into the center of the lid. This was about 7" across (diameter). 3. Placed an aluminum window screen (36" wide to cover the top--this is about $8 at the big box store). This will keep out mosquitos and other bugs. 4. Pressed the lid down onto the barrel itself--I let the screen fit in with the lid, but not tear. 5. Added the plastic lid ring. 6. Trimmed the excess aluminum screen from the sides. 7. You will need some height--I used concrete pavers, but any elevation method would work. ... show more

I’m using mine as a dust collector, in anticipation of the vacuumed collapsing the barrel I built bands that support the sides from the inside. Please take note! The farther down the intelligence spectrum you get, the lower the satisfaction rate will be for any product. Even a gold bar will be reviewed as being way to heavy. This barrel is an excellent barrel for the needs of 99.9% of applications. I mean, just what can be wrong with the barrel it’s self? And if it’s an issue with shipping damage, slander the shipper on their site and leave the barrel unscathed. I got mine at a great price through Amazon and if I need another or if a friend needs a dust collector, I would buy this product again! Updated review section. I have now been using this barrel for quite some time. I have been very impressed with the wall thickness, the fit of the lid and in general the molded in structural strength designs. Like I said in previous review, I use mine for dust collecting as a cyclone separator. I have had to empty this barrel four times so far, accounting for 200 gallons of wood dust and chips. I’m running a two horse impeller dust collector and a 4” system. I have not measured the vacuum the barrel is subjected to, but the strength of this barrel is better than I expected. This thing will last me for the rest of my woodworking life! Very happy with the quality! ... show more
