Description

The Eagle Type I galvanized steel safety can with funnel is used to store, transport, and dispense flammable liquids safely and comes with a funnel to facilitate filling and pouring. The can is made of 24-gauge galvanized steel, which is resistant to rust, dents, and certain chemicals. Gauge is a measure of thickness (the lower the gauge, the thicker the material). The powder-coated finish resists scratches, chipping, fading, and other wear. A flame arrestor helps prevent liquids inside the can from igniting and keep flames from spreading. The spout cap self-closes to help prevent leaks or spills. The cap assembly opens automatically to vent internal vapors. A trilingual safety warning label alerts users to the can's contents. The funnel is made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which is resistant to dents, punctures, and certain chemicals. This safety can may be available in different colors (blue for kerosene, green for oil or other combustibles, red for gasoline, or yellow for diesel) to separate, store, and identify different liquids. This product is FM Approved as a safety can used for handling flammable liquids in quantities of 5 gallons or less. It complies with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standard 1910.106 for the safe storage and handling of flammable liquids. It meets National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Code 30, which provides safeguards to reduce the hazards associated with the storage, handling, and use of flammable and combustible liquids. It is Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Listed and meets UL safety requirements.Hazardous storage cans are used to safely store, transport, and dispense flammable or hazardous liquids. They are typically made of polyethylene, 24-gauge galvanized steel, or 24-gauge stainless steel. (Gauge is a measure of thickness; the lower the gauge, the thicker the material.) Hazardous storage cans come in a variety of styles, such as Type I cans, which have a single spout for filling and pouring, and Type II cans, which have a flexible metal hose for pouring and a second opening for filling. They are often color-coded for different liquids (for instance, red cans for gasoline, blue cans for kerosene, yellow cans for diesel fuel, or green cans for oil). Other common features include flame arrestors, which help prevent the liquid inside the can from igniting, and seam welds, which help prevent leaks. Certain hazardous storage cans are FM Approved, and many meet National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for the storage and handling of flammable liquids. Hazardous storage cans are used in a variety of commercial and industrial environments and can also be suitable for home use.Eagle Manufacturing Company manufactures industrial safety, haz-mat, and storage products that meet International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for quality assurance. • This is the best gas can I've owned...
Color: Red Size: 2 gallon Style: Safety Can
UPDATE after SIX years constant use: You read it right, six years, still working like new. Only maintenance is making sure the funnel is clean before using it. No leaks, no splash over, fits EVERY application. I use this mainly on the ZTR or to take gas to someone in trouble. I've never left these in the sun for more than a few minutes. Original Review: Of course while in the service I used the heavy duty cans with flex spouts, and those are the best, but very hard to find these days. So I've had to make do for years and years with the plastic ones that you have to take off the spout to fill, and they always leak either there or at the "safety valve" they were putting on the spout tip for a while. I'm testifying tomorrow in a deposition about one of those, you can find my review of it if you look for the lowest rated gas cans...haha. That one not only leaked while using and filling, it split along the handle at the top and exhausted fumes all over the shed all day every day, and sloshed gas on my hands when I carried it, and then poured gas out of the split onto whatever I was filling... forget that~!! But I've had two of these Eagle cans for over two years now, and they get a lot of use and store in a southwest Texas storage shed that gets really hot in the summer... so these metal cans help give me at least a little feeling of being safer. I've never had a spill with these, and taking off the funnel is no problem when filling ... for me anyway, apparently some other reviewers don't realize all they went through with other types of cans when filling, like the ratcheting safety clips and the rubber washers that fall off and then the can leaks... these are spring loaded at the cap, just a squeeze to open it, and even though a "little" pressure could build up in them in the heat, not much, since it can just push the cap up and the spring lets out the pressure. This is a good design and I'll stick with it. The price is higher, but they'll last a long long time and stay trouble free. I recommend. ... show more

  • Same as it ever was...
Color: Red Size: 2 gallon Style: Safety Can
I was in charge of a large grounds care department for 30 years. Eagle and Justrite cans are the best out there. I have a strong preference for Eagle as I have found they are easier to use with less spillage. Eagle cans due to their design have a lower center of gravity and as such are less prone to tipping over while in transport. That said , all fuel cans should be held securely in place while transporting them in a vehicle. Many people complain about safety cans. Much of their complaints though true are just the nature of the beast. These are commercial duty safety cans. Designed to shut off fuel flow in the event of the can dropping or the person becoming incapacitated while in use or should an ignition event occur while filling a hot engine (BTW - don't do that). Like any tool you need to know how to use the tool. The springs on the self closing caps are strong so it is easy to see where an elderly or handicapped or just a weaker individual will have difficulty using and filling a safety can. As others have noted cutting a hole in the top of the funnel will help with refilling the can. Older versions had looser fitting funnels that were easier to take on and off the can but they could leak around the funnel to spout area more than the newer tight fitting funnels do. This can has a wide polymer funnel as do some Justrites, I like this setup but you need to be careful about cleaning the inside of the funnel as dust / dirt will accumulate there. Corrugated flexible metal spouts do not have this problem but will accumulate dirt on the outside of the spout which is an easier to clean than cleaning the inside of the plastic spouts. The metal spouts will eventually develop leaks along the flex windings and where they attach to the can. They also break of easier over time and are expensive to replace. For the uninitiated another issue with most safety cans is that by design they lack a breather opening (Type I) which allows air to enter the can as fuel is dispensed (Type II cans have breathers but can be complicated to use and cost more) - this allows for faster fuel flow. Lacking this vent most safety cans kind of gurgle the fuel out at a slower pace a source of annoyance to some but again a compromise for the sake of safety. I don't want to overstate this, slower but still very useful. In any event a commercial metal can is much safer than any plastic can and will outlast plastic as well, in fact they can last a lifetime and some. ... show more

  • Sturdy Steel and Just the Right Size
Color: Red Size: 2-1/2 gallon Style: Safety Can
I got this for my riding mower. I feel like it is very sturdy (indestructable). I didn't want to have all the so-called safety features that make it virtually impossible to dispense gasoline. This just has a spring-loaded pour-spout and is very easy to fill and empty. I RECOMMEND IT.

  • Best modern fuel can
Color: Red Size: 2-1/2 gallon Style: Safety Can
Just like the 5 gallon cans Eagle sells, these work perfect. Unlike the EPA approved nightmare "spill proof" jugs, these don't spill any fuel.

  • Funnel Work Around
Color: Red Size: 2-1/2 gallon Style: Safety Can
This gas can is a tank and will last for a long time if properly cared for. Good-bye to plastic cans that cave and the nozzle never works. Regarding the funnel and the extreme difficulty in getting it on the can and off the can to fill. I heated a large pan of water on the stove to boil then I placed the nozzle base (part that fits on your can) into the water for 20 seconds +. This heats, without distorting or melting, the nozzle/funnel to the point it will slide on the can all the way to the base effortlessly. No fight at all. Then for filling I cut a 1 1/2 inch hole on the top side proportionate to how a gas nozzle would fit using a hole saw kit to allow for quick and easy access to fill the can. All problems solved. ... show more
