  • Makes an excellent dust collection system
Number of Items: 1
Like many others buying this Polyethylene Drum I used mine to make a 14 gallon dust collection system for my workshop. However, unlike everyone else, I used the Home Depot Dust Stopper that costs about $40 instead of the $50 Dust Deputy that others have used. I was not impressed with the Dust Deputy as it sticks up off the top of the Drum, is difficult to attach, and you have to remove the entire white lid, Dust Deputy and all, to empty the drum. I adapted the Dust Stopper by cutting the top off of one of the orange buckets Home Depot sells and attaching it to a hole in the white lid of the drum with a good silicone adhesive. I can now just snap the Dust Stopper onto the orange bucket ring and unsnap it when I want to empty the drum. The Dust Stopper also rotates around the orange ring so I don't have to move the entire unit to attach the suction hose to different power tools. To save space I attached a wall-mounted 5 hp Shop-Vac to the drum using a bungee cord and mounted the whole thing on a board with wheels. I find that the Dust Stopper works very well, with very little dust getting into the Shop-Vac collection bag. I've built a second one of these to use in a different part of my shop so I don't have to keep moving this one around to reach all of my power tools. Couldn't be happier with the results. ... show more

  • Great for wine fermentation

  • NOT a good drum for use with the Dust Deputy Cyclone!
Number of Items: 1
This drum is just fine as a drum - but it was suggested for use with the Dust Deputy Cyclone vacuum accessory - I mounted the cyclone on the lid of the drum and tried it with two different shop style vacuums - both of the vacuums managed to deform the drum badly - sucking in the sides until it fell over - This isn't really the drum's problem - but it was recommended for use this way and while it would be a convenient size and shape for collecting debris, it just isn't stiff enough to survive the suction. nice drum - just not for use with the Oneida Cyclone units. Since I had to cut a hole in the lid to mount the cyclone, I'm stuck with it now but hopefully others can avoid my mistake. ... show more

  • Great drum to use with the Oneida Dust Deputy
Number of Items: 1
I bought the Oneida Molded DIY Dust Deputy Cyclone to collect the sawdust and shavings in my garage workshop and needed a drum to go with it. The Eagle 1610MB was the right size, capacity and price. It's pretty heavy duty and has no trouble coping with the vacuum produced by my shop vac. The top is sturdy and has a tapered edge shape that forms an excellent seal with the drum. The steel band will keep the top firmly in place, but for my use, I really don't need it because the negative pressure generated by my shop vac holds the top firmly in place. I did reinforce the underside of the top with a piece of 1/2" plywood, but that was more to stabilize the Dust Deputy than to add strength to the top. I used an old dolly and some scrap wood to build a frame-on-wheels to hold my shop vac and the drum and posted some photos of the results. The system works well and 95+% of the sawdust and shavings end up in the drum. ... show more

  • The seal between the lid and the drum is very tight and the lever lock makes for easy removal of the lid
Number of Items: 1
The media could not be loaded. I purchased this drum to use as the reservoir for cyclonic dust collector I built. The extra volume of this drum has helped tremendously over using a 5 gallon bucket. The seal between the lid and the drum is very tight and the lever lock makes for easy removal of the lid. Could not go wrong with the price! ... show more

  • Excellent value and very sturdy construction.
Number of Items: 1
I bought this because I like to take advantage of home brewing deals. Frequently that means I end up with grain supplies that I need to keep fresh and away from critters that like sweet grain. After all can you blame them? This came in a box and I was initially concerned because the walls of the drum were pushed so close together as to nearly be touching. I thought this was a mistake until I realized that it's intended to flex in that manner and didn't harm the product in any way. I disconnected the lid without difficulty, separated the walls with my hands, and let the drum acclimate before it resumed a normal shape. Currently I have about 50lbs of sweet grain contained in the drum for use when my brew day arrives - hopefully sooner than later. The quality of the construction is really excellent. The ring around the lid is made of a really solid material and the poly lid secures with a satisfying suction as to convince me that the contents are air-tight. I'll be buying another one of these very soon as they hold a lot of contents and fit just about anywhere conveniently. ... show more

  • Very sturdy container, very poor seal.
Number of Items: 1
Bought this for long-term water storage. Very sturdy, very nice design, with clamp to keep contents secure. After filling it, each time I pressed on the lid either water or air would leak out of the seal. I placed and replaced the clamp a number of times, and I couldn't get a seal. It seems like this product is neither air-tight nor water-tight. I guess I'll have to get some saran-wrap to beef up the diameter, or do some research on how to make this product water-tight / air-tight. Considering the price, one would assume that the lid and clamp would be effective; this is not the case. Be prepared to do/use some extra steps to ensure this product is capable of sealing it's contents from it's environment. ... show more

Number of Items: 1
Used this to build a sawdust container for my workshop vacuum system. Regular trash compactor bags fit perfectly inside, so when it's time to empty no mess ... plus, it seals around the top just right. The only negative issue with the barrel is the thin metal top. I had to re-enforce with 1/2" plywood to handle the connection pieces to my shop vac. ... show more
