    • Makes me want to vacuum daily, maybe even 2x a day!!
I just opened this today and used it for the first time. We live in a small house (just under 1000sf) with hard floors and various area rugs (one is a Moroccan rug with thick pile). I was impressed with the suction power (the amount of dust I pulled up from the Moroccan rug was disgusting but in a good way when you're talking in vacuum terms), it is really lightweight for me (I'm a 5'6" 125 lb woman in her mid 30's), and it's pretty quiet for a vacuum this small and mighty. Plus I love that it's cordless! For me, the 40 minutes of time is fine bc we have a smaller house, but I could see how that might be a problem for those with bigger jobs. I will provide an update after a few months, but my first impression is how did I ever do without this thing? I had a Miele stick vacuum which was soooo heavy and, according to my housekeeper, didn't work well. I feel like this product is perfect for me and my use and it's so light and easy to use it makes me want to vacuum daily...is that weird ;) it is pricey, so maybe try going for an older model as I don't think there is necessarily a huge difference. For me, this was worth the investment because of ease of use, weight, cord free, works really well, I'm getting a dog soon too so this model I've heard is great for pet hair. I'm impressed and if it reallly does it's job for many years, I will not hesitate to buy another Dyson in the future. It's not cheap, but I do believe in this case you get what you pay for. I'm a stickler for things like good design and ease of use, and this fits the bill perfectly. I don't even mind that you have to hold the on button to activate it because it probably saves the battery and it's not really a hard/sticky button to keep pushed down. Buy it, you won't regret it, and you'll save because you won't have to replace your vacuum that may have been cheaper but broke a year later... ... show more

    • Despite its cost I am delighted with this machine and would buy it again.
FORMERLY, the house would get dirtier and dirtier until the person with the least tolerance for dirt would give in and vacuum it. That meant that I had to go into the basement and get the machine, because it was heavy and I was the only one who could lug it upstairs. Someone—me—had to empty the bag and put another one in, that is, if someone—me—had remembered to have a supply of bags ready in advance, then, having gotten it upstairs, unwind the chord, plug it in, and change the outlet as one went around the house (and some of the outlets required getting on one’s hands and knees), rewind the chord and then lug it downstairs again. The house got relatively clean, but since the machine was ungainly, it was hard to get into small spaces. I also had a small vacuum cleaner for the car and small spaces, but that also was unwieldy and also had a chord and a bag. Then the house would gradually get dirty again, and the cycle repeat. NOW—I vacuum all the time, and the house is delightfully clean, all the time. The Dyson is so easy to use that you can use it to clean the kitchen floor after cooking, clean the dining room floor after eating, or clean the living room floor after snacking in front of the television. It is easier than a broom and dustpan. I became so enamored of my vacuum cleaner that my wife told me to stop bringing it to dinner, for that was starting to be my practice. It is lightweight, and there is no chord, since it hangs on the charger, and no bag. Emptying it is easy. It seems to me to clean better than the older, more powerful one. It is beautifully engineered, easy to get into small spaces. DELICATENESS: I kept the old handheld machine for vacuuming around my work bench, since I think the Dyson is too delicate for shards of metal and wood. CUSTOMER SUPPORT: I could not figure out how to insert the electric chord into the rack which the machine hangs from. I called Dyson on a weekend, I think, at a late hour. Got a real person at once who told me what to do. VOLTAGE: I do not know why customers think it is only for 110 current. The plug says that it can be used on 110-240. I am going to bring one of these for my apartment overseas, and buy another one for here. There are many things one can spend one’s money on. I am glad I spent some of mine on this. ... show more
