  • Good Gun for Latex or Acrylic Paint With Caveats
I have had very good luck spraying both latex exterior and interior enamel and also 100% acrylic paints (like Sherwyn Williams Pro Classic), but there are some caveats. These are VERY important. 1. The paint MUST be diluted. For each quart of paint, I use 8 ounces of Floetrol and 4-6 ounces of water. These must be mixed thoroughly and MUST be put through a paint strainer on the way to the cup. The flow rate is 35-40 seconds in a Ford #4 cup. Like thin pancake batter. 2. The compressor used for this gun must have some umph. I use a six HP Devilbiss (33-gallon tank) that can crank out over 10 CFM at 90 psi. If you are going to use a smaller compressor you will be disappointed. This gun takes a lot of air. It is not an HVLP gun but one of the old style guns. I run the gun between 50-60 psi. 3. If you are going to do vertical surfaces you need to be very careful and lay down light layers to prevent runs. Horizontal surfaces are no problem. The reason I got this gun was because my airless sprayer is nightmare to clean. This is best for the occasional door or cabinet. It lays down paint like glass if you are careful, just don't go for a heavy wet coat. If you plan on painting a house or a fence or something that requires a lot of coverage don't buy this, buy an airless, preferably not a cheapo. I have no intention of ever spraying any oil based paints through this gun, the cap set is just too big (2.5MM) and I don't recommend using this gun for thin materials, but for water based, thick paints, with proper preparation, it works really well, and the bonus is that it cleans up in five minutes. ... show more

  • Thick paint beast!!!
Pros - The gun is completely metal! This is in my opinion the biggest seller for this type of HVLP spray. All the parts are easily cleaned and maintained. The gun comes with a 2.5 mm tip which is perfect for spraying heavy paints such as primers and chalk paint unthinned. The sprayer is also very comfortable to spray with. It has controls for the fan pattern, pressure, as well as the amount of product that is flowing through the gun. Cons - There is only one tip so you are limited to spraying heavier paints with this gun. If you are low on paint in the canister and spraying on an angle it sometimes won't spray any paint. the easy fix is to always keep the canister more that a 1/3 full while painting. ... show more

  • Don't get it
I've used many spray guns in my day and this one is definitely the worst. Bought it to spray primer and from the get go the needle leaks from the trigger area. The spray pattern is 6 inches or so and it will not properly atomize the paint as if it lacks air flow. Used the same paint in a Walmart gun directly from this one and sprayed perfectly so can't blame it on the user! ... show more

  • Good, not Great
Did not have much luck with paint coverage. I played with different paints and viscosities, but never got the gun to put out more than a most. Would have taken me all week to paint my room. Ended up using a roller! The device it self is well built and easy to set up/ break down. Maybe it was me or just the wrong paint, but couldn't get it to work well enough. ... show more

  • Easy cleanup, quick set up, and works for my uses.
Used this paint some concrete forms with latex paint. The paint itself was moderately thick, and I did add about a third of the container of water just in case. It took me a minute to fine tune the spray amount and pattern, but it worked pretty well for its intended use. I used a large sandblasting compressor for the air supply which seemed to properly mist the paint for application. Cleanup was simple, just sprayed water through the gun. Rinsing out the container was easy as well, and it didn't make much mess at all. Cleanup took less than 10 minutes. I only have extremely thin, extremely cheap latex paints so I doubt, in my case, that the watering down step is even necessary. The paint also has metallic flakes, but that didn't seem to cause any issues with clogging or spray pattern. Pretty decent result for my uses, and I'd buy it again for rudimentary projects that don't need to look top notch. ... show more
