  • Very good overall
Style: Burner
I do very little frying and use the cooktop mainly for cooking vegetables and making rice and pasta. It heats up rapidly and temperature control is responsive and predictable. I have only three minor complaints: As a safety feature, the cooktop beeps and shuts off if you lift you cooking pan off the surface - which you sometimes need to do while cooking. They should have built a delay into the shutoff to allow for occasional lifting of the pan. It would be helpful to have adjustable leveling feet to allow for countertops that are not perfectly level. Otherwise liquid ingredients (an omelet for example) will run to one side, since you cannot lift the pan to compensate. Though both the cooking surface and control area are glass, there is a thin strip of plastic between them - making it just a little more difficult to keep the surface clean. Overall, I am pleased with the induction cooktop and would definitely buy it again. Update: I have found that the cooktop restarts automatically when you replace the pan after lifting, so my complaint about it shutting off when you lift the pan is not really a problem. ... show more

  • Great value and excellent cooking for a 120v Countertop cooking surface
Style: Burner
I bought this to try out induction. I seriously disliked my ceramic top electric stove and was looking to replace it with a high end gas range with an upcoming kitchen renovation. However, the amount of "waste heat" you get in a kitchen from gas always bugged me and I've seen more and more positive things about induction. So, I bought this unit to see what I thought about it before making my final decision on what my new kitchen range would be (Gas or Induction) My wife and I tried it out for about a month and it was so much better than the old electric cook top that we pretty much used this exclusively unless we absolutely had to have two or more burners going at once. Cooking with induction is just as responsive as gas (turn down the heat, it goes down immediately, crank it up, it cranks immediately) and this cook top even plugged in to a wall outlet (just a 120v circuit) boiled a whole pot of water in under 1/2 to 1/3 the time that the standard electric stove did. Yes, we had several good pots and pans that were not induction compatible - we knew that going in but we were so happy with this burner that we decided we could commit to full induction. Ended up buying a Frigidaire Induction range and are very happy with it. However, that's not the end of the tale here - we still find this cook top to be useful - we had a bunch of friends over for a dinner get together the other week and used this as a convenient "fifth burner" and then switched it over to being a warmer The temperature specific control is a feature even our full induction range doesn't have (the ability to set this unit to a specific temperature instead of just 1 to 10) .. it's really really useful for holding /warming a dish of food for serving thought the night at a safe temp but not burning it. The unit stays pretty cool to the touch and we're about to switch back to using it for daily cooking while the aforementioned kitchen renovation takes place (we liked Induction cooking so much that we bought the new stove before hand since we could buy and swap out the stove right away without waiting for the renovation to run a gas line. So, this is as much a review of induction cooking as this burner but .. if you're looking for a decent countertop burner, this is way better than a classic electric model and the induction cooking is powerful enough for daily cooking. The unit is easy enough to keep clean and we can stow it away in a cupboard when not in use. It's great for an extra burner when your stove is extra full (like managing holiday cooking etc) and it serves very well as a chafing/warming burner due to the temp setting. ... show more

  • Wow! Impressed!
Style: Burner
I had been wanting to try induction cooking as part of an outside kitchen set up, and this burner was my intro. I plugged it in, and I was off to the races. It is powerful; it will be as hot as you need it to be. I have only used it in the power scale mode and not in the temperature mode so far. The other minor issues others have noted - the fan noise and the fact you must select the mode each time you turn it on - do not bother me in light of the fact that it is so easy to use. I will get at least one more of these since I want to use them not just outside at home but also while RV camping. ... show more

  • No toxic gasses in the house
Style: Burner
This has taken over most of my stovetop cooking over the winter. In the summer I can open all the windows and use the gas range but when I'm trying to keep the house warm and don't want to open windows to let out the CO, induction feels much safer. When I get around to replacing the 1970s gas range I will definitely go induction. Temperature control and speed of heating are very comparable to gas. ... show more

  • Well designed
Style: Burner
This device works as expected and we were able to install it over the two right side radiant elements or our relatively new electric range. The two radiant elements were easily disabled by unplugging them and the induction "hot plate" was placed on a heavy aluminum baking sheet over them. This induction cooktop does have a rather stiff cord although only two conductor. If left plugged in, even when turned off, it generates some FM radio interference (rfi). We are investigating obtaining a ferrite bead to suppress this and negate the need to keep it unplugged when not in use. There is a cooling fan, which generates some noise when the unit is on and cooling down but it is reasonably quiet. ... show more

  • Quick heating
Style: Burner
Just tried it out for the first time. It was impressive how quickly the two cups of water started to boil, about 3 minutes 26 seconds. It simmered the rice on the lowest setting just fine. I’m pleased.

  • Great for the soup pot!
Style: Burner
Energy efficient and fast for boiling noodles, which is mainly why I bought it. I make a lot of bone broth and veggie soup, and it works great for this. Temperature control is easy. You do have to watch it. I burned the first pot of soup when most of the liquid boiled off. Didn’t hurt the pot, but the veggies were blackened. ... show more

  • Great intro to induction!
Style: Burner
Very easy to use, and works well. Only problem is that with a 12-inch skillet, the skillet edge partially obscures control panel.
