  • Great replacement for a 1995 Tecumseh engine on a chipper-shredder.
Style: 208cc Gas
I had a chipper-shredder from 1995 with a Tecumseh 5 HP engine on it and the engine was frozen. I unbolted the old engine and looked around for a suitable replacement. I considered a Honda engine but it was too expensive for my limited chipping needs. So I bought a Duromax engine. Before I mounted it on the chipper I ran it a bit to break it in. I filled it with gas and oil and it started immediately and easily. So far, this engine starts on the first pull every time. To break it in, I ran the engine for 1 hour at various speeds and then changed the oil. I could see silvery metal material in the oil, as expected, as the piston and cylinder did a break-in. I might not have seen this with a precision Honda engine, but maybe even so. I ran the engine again for 1 hour and when I drained the oil the second time, it was looking pretty good. I refilled the oil (so that's round 3) and attached the engine to my chipper. That required some metalwork since the bolt pattern was not identical to my old Tecumseh but a hour with a grinder did the trick. I've run this chipper for about 6 hours since then and it works better than ever. The engine is reasonably quiet (chipping is very loud) and has started easily every time. At 10 hours, I will change the oil 1 more time and then I assume to get a few years out of this rig. Overall, a good deal. A new 7HP chipper might cost $800-1000 so this is a cost-effective solution and more eco-friendly. ... show more

  • know what you're buying first.
Style: 208cc Gas
Make sure you know that the crank turns CLOCKWISE IN THE PICTURE. I found out the hard way because I have the axle sprocket on the wrong side, so now I have to make a bracket to fit it to the passenger side. Most go-karts have driver-side axle sprockets. But I was using an old lawnmower frame. Also, make sure you're aware that this isn't really a go-kart friendly engine. Look at the red throttle handle. that is how this thing was designed to throttle: by hand!!! It would make a good log-splitter engine though. I checked underneath the muffler to check how the throttle levers are designed, and there is just no way to mount any sorts of cables to this thing. Make sure you know this ahead of time. As far as the engine, she roars!!! Very powerful. Oops! After inspecting the engine further, I found the issue. Get yourself a good go-kart throttle cable, and there will be a metal tab arm underneath the gas tank with a hole in it where the throttle spring mounts. Start the engine and push on it from the front (front as in from this picture), and you'll notice that it throttles the engine (you can also use the red hand tab). So I had to unhook the muffler sheath, drill a hole in it and put a screw in with a plate to mount the cable sheath end to keep it steady. This next part is hard but, you have to give line on that end, and put the throttle cable end through that hole (it may look like it will fall out, but trust me it is snug enough to pull it). Next just work on the front, mounting the pedal and the throttle cable I have has a circular hook end that will just attach on the pedal simply. This was my first time building a kart so that was what all the confusion was about. Still, Duromax loses a star because I still had to do some work myself. It was somewhat confusing and they didn't make it easy. PS - oil dipstick is wrong. Sticker on engine says "20 oz oil capacity" It is actually closer to 12-14 oz. You have to tip the engine on blocks so that all the oil won't drain out! Cheap Chinese *&^$% (* &@!(. The gas tank is mounted crooked. Typical, Chinese balancing issues can't use a level. ... show more

  • Great little motor
Style: 208cc Gas
My 5hp motor on the snow blower finally gave out last winter 2021. In December of 2022 I finally bought this 7hp DuroMax. Best choice I made. I have used it now 4 times and has plenty of power to get through the last snow storm of 8 inches. I am very happy with it. I didn't give it a rating on longevity as I have only had it for 2months now. For durability it starts on the second pull and I haven't been able to bog it down. ... show more

  • Bolted right up, started 1/2 way through the first pull.
Style: 208cc Gas
Old horse, was tired of rebuilding the tecumseh. Ended up taking front end off since I have the 2 speed. 5/16-24 needed for shaft vs old bolt. So far, so good. Quieter, more power and easier to start.
