For a fake log set this looks good behind the screen I bought from Amazon earlier. It was simple for my LP provider to install and worked perfectly the first time. The remote has worked flawlessly so far, but the true test will come in a month or so when the weather begins to turn. This little beauty should be a reliable backup for heating the living room if we lose power. Between this log set and the fireplace screen our living room looks homey and inviting. UPDATE 11/1/2016: When attempting to use the set for the first time since installation the remote would not light the logs. I contacted the seller who sent me a new remote and receiver. After following the directions to the letter, still nothing. The seller has been very communicative and is in the process of sending another, pre paired, remote and receiver. These two parts are the most frustrating and cheaply made items in the set. I'm leaving the 5 star rating for the time being and will update again when/if the issue is resolved. First let me says that we purchased this item in August 2020. Due to Covid we were not able to have the unit installed until Oct 2021, past the warranty date. After having 3 different people try to install the unit they found it to be faulty., would not light. On Oct 18th I contacted the seller and explained the situation, asking if they could possibly send us a new burner. After many back and forth emails, and doing everything they said they informed me almost a month later, they could offer only technical assistance since the warranty had expired. We have now purchased another log set from someone different, 5 minute hook-up and it works perfectly. They are certainly not concerned about the customer service. ... show more

Reviewing 24" Berkshire Stacked Oak,vent free,duel fuel,remote control,8 log set. Purchased Jan. 2016 from Amazon, sold by Factory Buys Direct $370 I'm replacing my old log set and wanted a set with a remote thermostat. I've looked locally at Lowes which has a 24" set with remote for $399, it's also on their website. The Lowes set is an embarrassment visually and the reviews on their website tell me all I needed to know about. I'm surprised lowes continues to sell an item with those kind of reviews. The set arrived in 4 days with free standard shipping, 2 boxes, no problems. Setup was easy as I was replacing an existing set. The remote: this is where the thermostat is located. There is no thermostat on the chassis although page 21 in the Manuel shows the control knob as controlling a thermostat. There is none. The control knob is only on, off and pilot. The remote is where you set the on temp., after an increase of 4 degF the logs shut off. Where you place the remote can make a difference in cycle time. Placed close to the logs and it will cycle off rather quickly. You can also use this remote as a Manuel on and off, which is a very nice feature. The Receiver: the receiver is connected by wires to the chassis, you make this connection on installation and makes replacement easy if ever necessary. T he receiver has 3 settings, on, off and remote. It stays on remote normally but if the remote control unit is not functioning, you can operate the logs manually (no thermostat). The smell: new logs sets smell and these did too but not terrible and was gone in 3 days. Only Gripe: The amount of lava rocks is about half of what is shown in the photo....seriously? Overall: after one week I'm very happy.... Great value! ... show more
