Features

  • BOARD STYLE - The Driftsun Throwndown Surf Style Wakesurf Board is perfect for beginner and intermediate riders. Advanced riders will also enjoy surfing the Driftsun Throwndown with customized fin set up. Excellent for all riders ranging from adults, kids and teens.
  • CONSTRUCTION - Hand finished EPS foam core board with a rigid natural wood stringer. The board is then finished with glass epoxy resin on top of layered fiberglass. The Diamond Machine Cut EVA Traction Pad sheds water quick and features a stout kicktail.
  • FIN SETUP - Quad fin set up. Flush Fin Boxes allow you to upgrade and customize your setup with compatible fins. The included fins cut deep into the wave, making for straight and fast riding. Remove two mirrored fins for more control.
  • SHAPE - The Driftsun Throwdown has dual concave channels in the mid to rear of the board. The 2.5" x 14.25" rocker provides a fast and responsive ride and the low rail and rolled edges allow for maximum stability. The EVA pad is cut for standard footing, but the nose and mid accept wax extremely well.
  • GROW WITH YOUR BOARD - The Driftsun Wake Surf Throwdown is built to grow with the rider. Beginners will find this style of board the easiest learn on. Advanced riders will enjoy its high speed, maneuverability and explosiveness. All Driftsun wakeboard, wake surfboard and skimboard gear and accessories are built for serious use and will hold up for many seasons to come.

  • Not for beginners
Color: 4’ 8”
I am a beginning wakesurfer and bought this as my first board based on the description of it being good to learn on and progress. For reference, I am a male, 5’11” and 205 lbs. the board is attractive and well-constructed. Trying to learn on this board, I found it easy to get up but very “skittish” when trying to settle into the pocket. I was spending so much time correcting my position and resisting the boards tendency to move and wiggle that I could never think about dropping the rope. With more knowledge now, I think this feel is due to a combo of the quad fin setup and the shape of the rails. Chances are I’ll love this board once I’m much better, but I’m giving it 3 stars because at least in my case, I would not consider this good to learn on as a beginner as it is advertised. Discouraged by my progress, I bought a VERY easy to ride (but probably hard to progress on) longboard (Hyperlite Landlock). This is what a beginner board should be: easy to get up and stay in the pocket. I dropped the rope day 1 and can do dance moves and talk to people on the boat on this board. Obviously not a great board for tricks, but a beginner board for sure. I tried the Driftsun Throwdown again after some confidence and experience on the aforementioned longboard. I still find the Throwdown unstable and hard to ride at my skill level. Again, I’m sure it’s wonderful for more advanced riders and I’ll enjoy it in the future, but I do not feel it is a good first board on which to learn. ... show more

  • May be a bit small for riders over 200 pounds.
Color: 4’ 8”
It may be a bit small for people over 200 pounds. Rideable for an experienced rider but too slow. I read somewhere that it was rated to 250 pounds. Yes you can get up but staying on the wave proved to be a bit difficult for heavy riders.

  • Surf value and quality
Color: 4’ 8”
Great board at a tremendous value compared to other hybrid boards. Had been riding a CWB Ride which was a great board to learn on but limited in maneuverability. This board is providing an opportunity to really advance our surf skills and fun.

  • Agile and light weight
Color: 4’ 8”
This board is awesome. The weight is perfect, found it stable yet agile, pretty quick. I do wish it had more instructions with it on how to change the ride with the different fin setups for those of us that are more beginner-ish but still awesome.

  • good beginner board but....
Color: 4’ 8”
Great board for teaching people, but if you plan to advance quickly, invest in a better board like a Phase 5. i use this on my board for first timers now, but only rode it 5 times before realizing i wanted a better board.

  • Good choice for the family
Color: 4’ 6”
Great bang for your buck and great for beginners. Stable ride that holds the wave really well for newer riders but will also accelerate forward and rip some turns if you ask it too. We use it with the two back fins. Not great for skim style tricks if that's what you're looking for, at least with the long fins it comes with. Good looking board too! ... show more

Have nothing to compare it to, but it seems good. Kids and myself have been able to sue it.
