  • The perfect strings for fretless bass!
2 years ago I hot-rodded a Fender American Fretless Jazz with new pickups, nut and shielding. After all that work, the tone and playability improved only slightly. I read some good reviews on these strings and decided to see if they would sound better than the Elixers or Rotosounds. Wow what a difference these strings make. My bass has awakened and is ready to roar...or at least purr (the mwah fretless sound). Never had a set of strings make so much of a difference in tone and playability. My bass is now everything I hoped it would be thanks to these wonderful strings. ... show more

  • Best strings for getting your chops in
DR Sunbeams 40-100 gauge are my favorite string I’ve played over the past 25 years. They have great sound and are light enough to make it easy to get your chops in, and more difficult bass lines, cleanly and effortlessly. The only caveat is that if you’re looking for a low/deep grumbling hardcore sound, these probably aren’t for you. But no strings fit all styles. With sunbeams I just tweak my tone when I need to get a deeper/warmer sound... Whithout having to compromise comfort on faster/funkier genres. ... show more

  • Highbeams for fretted, Sunbeams for fretless!
Rotosounds are great for fretless, but they feel a little abrasive and wear on the fingerboard. I love DR Highbeams for fretted, and since getting used to this hybrid gauge of 40 - 100, Sunbeams are the perfect fretless string for me with this gauge that isn't on offer from Rotosound. The feel of the Sunbeams for me are the best for getting into the gliss-y world of fretless. 40 - 95 can feel a little flimsy, and 45-105 tires an old guy like me out too fast. Glad DR offers two great varieties of strings for two different kinds of basses with this middle-way gauging. ... show more

  • Nice!! Fretless Bass 34" Scale with EMG-J Set
Nice!! Fretless Bass 34" Scale with EMG-J Set. EMG BQS 5 knob Active Electronics at 18v. I tried and still like the D'Addario Nickel Wound (not so good, bland sounding) and also a set of DR Hi-Beams (which was very good). But these Sunbeams 40-100 are the BOMB for Fretless. It just has a nice growl and punch, very pronounced and separate sounding than the D'Addario's and the Hi-Beams. It's all I will use for fretless is the Sunbeams. Might get a set too for my fretted bass. ... show more

  • Nice strings, long life
I use these on my Fender Jazz Bass. I like the sound and the feel of the strings, and they last a long time between string changes.

  • The best strings!
Fantastic! I keep on coming back to these after trying all sorts of other strings. Supple, bright, and warm all at the same time. Highly recommended...just remember to crimp before cutting during the install! There are some good videos on YouTube if your don’t know what I’m talking about.

  • Great tone with low tension
Bright but warm tone with flexible feel!! Doesn’t feel like your playing super stiff tensioned strings but still work great for slap and pick playing!! Highly recommended especially for players with carpel tunnel or tendinitis!!
