Description

The K3 coating is the first coating that players report, "sound as good or better than uncoated strings." DR's remarkable and proprietary K3 Technology coating is the first coating that makes no apologies and no excuses for not delivering sound equal to uncoated strings. Players tell us that these strings have more volume, less unwanted overtones, greater clarity and articulation than standard, uncoated strings. Yet, they provide the same protection due to corrosion and perspiration as well as increased tone life that coated strings are known for.

  • Not my cup of tea
I'm always looking to try new things, to bring new sounds into my realm. These strings didn't do it for me. I put them on my Cliff Bordwell 6 string bass, and although I don't mind the feel at all (many people complain about the feel - I think they felt good), they are just missing some key bright frequencies, and I found that quite frustrating. I think if I were into old-school vintage sounds, these would likely be okay (they do look cool, if that's your thing), but I tend to go for a modern, more well-rounded bass tone, and I just couldn't get there with these. Like other DR products, they are well-made, but these weren't my thing. I'll stick with the Sunbeams. ... show more

  • Great, but may need to dial down tone more on the G & C strings
I bought as replacements for semi-rounds on my Cort A6 Artisan. I found the low strings to be great, but the higher strings were thin and tinny sounding so I went back to the semi-rounds. However, I swear by these strings on several other basses. It's just something to be aware of if you have a high C string. ... show more

  • Black Strings That Look Sweet!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Black strings for my 6-string bass! I noticed that the packaging didn't specifically state that there were six strings in it, so I safely assumed that it was the right one to get. Nice, bright sound and they look amazing! You may notice that some of the reviews for these are low because of the new strings apparently having a dull and lifeless sound to them. I think this happened to these people because they didn't do their research and learn how to put a new set on correctly (YouTube it and see what needs to happen with crimping the new strings before you cut them!). ... show more

  • Beautiful strings...
I love DR strings! I have used DR strings on all of my basses and almost exclusively for more than 20 yrs now. Much like DR's Sunbeams strings, the sound is bright and warm. I'll continue to use DR Black Beauties because the sound is great, they last a long time and they really make my basses colors (wood gains) "pop" in the light... The string coating does eventually wear off with aggressive playing in and around points of direct contact (finger style player; strings wear over the pickups from plucking and picks will chew the coating off pretty fast) with the string, but that doesn’t seem to effect the sound or playability of the strings themselves. However, they do go dead pretty fast after that happens… At one point I did use them on my fretless for a while but noticed some fingerboard wear while changing strings. Not as bad as a regular round wound string would have been, but I have since switched to tape wound strings for my fretless. ... show more

  • 1st set I've bought
Sounds great !! I picked up a 6 string bass guitar, 1st one I've owned, (I've played them in music stores) 1st set of DR's for this bass. Roto sound is nice, I prefer flat to eliminate the 'slide' sound

  • Very pleased
I took a chance on these strings thinking they would be a gimmick, and thus far I have been pleased. Just bright enough for me in my style playing, but still vibrant and full sounding. I have a 5 string Bass I need to try these on because of the solid maple being too bright for me. Changing to these strings may help that a bit! For someone who has a bottom freq bass thats all power and low mids, I don't think these would be for you, unless you're trying to enhance that sound even more. Hope they last 4+ years like my Elixers did! ... show more

  • Awesome bass strings. The look is amazing.
One of the best sounding strings I’ve tried. I’ve been playing for 50 yrs and I’ve tried every style string out there and DR’s to me have that feel. The coating feels right and the tone is unchanged by it. The Red Devils are the same great sounding strings. Excellent price too!

  • Bright tone! I’m amazed.
I purchased a set of 6 String Black Beauties because my hands sweat and am amazed at how bright these sounded out the package. I had to be really careful while plucking or playing slap because the tone was super bright. I will buy these again.
