  • Comparable to Aveda Clove
Color: Cool Medium Brown
I like this brand of hair color conditioner. I compare my experience to my long-time use of Aveda Clove -- they discontinued Aveda Clove and I was quite sad about that as it was my 'go-to' for those times I wanted to add a boost of color to my not-dyed (natural-color) hair. However, I did a lot of research and gave a lot of thought and read a lot of reviews before I picked dpHue, as I wanted something close to Aveda Clove, or even better. In some ways this is better than Aveda Clove in that it puts much more shine and body to my hair. My hair looks gorgeous the day of, so I like to use it if I am going out or have something special to do. I have medium-dark brown hair with some grey sprinkled throughout. This hair conditioner adds a deeper tone to my hair and gives it beautiful body and bounce and shine. It tones down my greys so they aren't as noticeable but of course doesn't cover them completely - but I have a lot more dark hair than grey so that helps. Also a positive is it does not turn my hair reddish - that's why I picked the cool instead of the warm. The color actually beats out Aveda Clove in that Clove sometimes could look a little reddish or a little too dark. I only left this on so far anywhere between 3 minutes and 5 minutes. I used a cap while in the shower so I didn't accidentally rinse it away. I am going to try leaving it in longer to see how my results are now that I know it doesn't cause damage or make my hair too dark. I wish it lasted longer but I can't remember if Clove lasted longer than this brand or not. It'll last through maybe 4 shampoos, maybe. The shine and bounce really only last the first two shampoos while the color gradually but quickly fades over the next few days. But it is gentle enough to use frequently if you choose to do that. I use it maybe once a week or every 2 weeks. And, perhaps leaving it in longer will give me longer results. I will order again. And in fact, I really want to try the clear dpHue to see how it works in my hair. It's a little pricey but you often have just what you pay for so I don't mind paying more for quality. ... show more

  • For those with naturally medium auburn hair
Color: Strawberry
Ok, I chose the Strawberry shade of this product because I wanted a subtle enhancement of my hair color. It’s been fading and getting more dull over the years and I wanted something to add a little warmth back into it. I couldn’t find many reviews of this on natural red heads with before and after photos so, I took a few. The first photo is in natural ish lighting in the kitchen, WITH a test strand where you can see a noticeable difference. The second photo is also with the test strand against my natural color but with lighting through my bedroom window. The third photo is taken after applying the product all over my hair and in the same bedroom window lighting. The fourth photo is after applying it all over and taken in the kitchen semi natural lighting. The bottom half of my hair is still a darker shade from previously coloring it and then lifting that color out. The top part(from mid to roots) is all natural. I don’t personally see too much of a difference except for the photos with the test strand where you can really tell that it’s a different color. Overall I feel that this product did what I wanted which was to bring back some warmth. It also made my hair incredibly soft and light feeling. My hair usually feels very dense and heavy and now it’s light and soft. It was super easy to apply and I’d recommend for anyone looking to have a subtle change to your hair. I didn’t want to try the copper or auburn shade because I didn’t want a drastic fire truck red or safety orange hair color. I did hope for a little more of a change but again I’ve only used it once so maybe with another application it’ll be more noticeable. ... show more

  • Saved my hair
Color: Light Brown
These glosses SAVED my hair from a case of very bad 90’s streaky highlights. They were easy to use and the product went a lot further than I expected as my hair is bushy and dry. First, I got the medium blonde and did my whole head. Wash your hair normally and towel dry to damp (not dripping). I applied liberally and only used a lil less than half the bottle. I let it sit clipped up with a face mask on for 18 mins. Rinsed my face and got back in the shower (total processing about 22 mins). Conditioned after I rinsed and let it air dry over night. Second step, I also got the light brown, which I hoped to blend with my natural/warm it up a bit. I had the majority of my streaks in the top half of my head so after I re washed my hair and towel dried to damp, and patted out the top/bottom and put the bottom in a ponytail. I parted what was left down the middle. Section by section I went in and applied a generous blob at my hair line near the highlight, rubbed it into my scalp, and then drug the product down the full length of that section. I did about 3 sections on each side of my middle part. I again applied pretty liberally on my scalp, but attempted to have as little product on the ends as possible. After 8 mins, I took out my ponytail, pumped 4 pumps of each color into my hands (wearing gloves btw), mixed that up and applied it to the bottom half of my hair and top half ends. Then, I panicked, and used about 4 more squirts of the blonde to coat all my ends together until everything was as wet as my scalp. I left that all in for probably another 5 mins before rinsing and and conditioning in the shower again. Couldn’t be happier - and I’ll take $70 for two bottles over the $350 at the salon that got my into this mess. ... show more
