My 3 year old child got bored of this toy pretty quickly. It was made good for the price, in my opinion. And I honestly liked playing with it more than she did, lol, I caught myself writing on it to try and get her attention to the toy so she would play with it. I wouldn't say a waste of money, because for some children, they may love art and drawing and coloring, etc..but I'm hoping my 3 year old gains some interest in it in the future. The gel looks cool and the backings that you can change out are almost pointless, but the gel color is pretty and the gel consistency is good in my opinion because for children with short attention spans, it creates a new work area for the next picture to be drawn. ... show more

The gel inside is super stiff. I have 5yr old students that can't even make designs in the gel because it's so thick.

I thought this was a little more than what I got. It was a tablet like holder with a clear plastic sleeve in the front with a gel inside. What makes me a little underwhelmed is the slot in the top behind the plastic sleeve there is an cardboard insert with a colored background that if the child draws on the sleeve in the front - you supposedly see the squiggles and "designs" that are drawn. Remove the cardboard insert and it is clear that you can't readily "see" the design being drawn. At the top of the insert yuo see the words: "print out custom backgrounds at doodlejamz.com." So what is this? A small plastic tablet device with a plastic sleeve full of gel for drawing? And a cardboard insert with colored backgrounds? If this is the case- then I opened a package that is clearly not what is depicted in the short video - a tablet that can be drawn on by the child- I get that the design, materials etc must be as non-toxic as possible- but a cardboard insert behind the "drawing surface?" Two stars ** - and I'm not at all in agreement that I can't return this item- Bummer! ... show more

We went on a trip with my niece and her husband. They have two children and they enjoyed playing with them some. We ended up driving a lot at night so they were sleeping a lot. I bought this to teach a phonics lesson. I wanted multisensory options to help spell out the sounds. For the price this was a great option, considering the ones meant for school use are so expensive. My only downfall was that it seemed like you had to warm up the gel first. If it was cold, then it was hard to move around and the students could not use it. I had to warm it up for them.
