My dog only wears this when the grandkids come over so he won't run out the front door. He is a little half breed chihuahua and is stubborn. This collar works great without harming him. Battery life last atleast a week for us cuz we don't use it daily. It has 3 settings one is a loud beep,vibration mode and shock mode. The settings are adjustable. We keep our settings on 1 which is very light shock. What I mean by that is my granddaughter touched it when I hit the shock button and she could nearly feel it. I bought this product in hopes to teach my 1.5yr old chocolate lab named Cola to be more obedient. From when he was 8 weeks old through to his fist birthday he was very obedient, but in standard Chocolate Lab style he began ignoring commands that I thought we had perfected in my first attempt at obediance training. Thinking back to all of the Chocolate labs we had growing up, I should have expected this as every single one we had would have days where verbal commands seemed to go in one ear and right out the other. ry choc lab I grew up with showed that they were highly intelligent & skillful hunting dogs, but they all eventually began ignoring commands around 2 to 3 years old - often walking up to a mile away through our neighbors back yards. Once I remembered labs can be awnry, and uninterested in our calls to come home/inside/trying anything to avoid having to physically chase him down. Remembering all of this, I knew that I'd need a product that could help me teach Cola to be more obedient even though he's past his prime training years. This product surpassed my highest expectations! My main concern was that I refuse to shock my dog all day every day just because he's doing what dogs do. I'm extremely happy to say that this device took 2 weeks to get Cola back on track and listening to my commands - especially once he hears the beep, so I rarely use the shock feature on low. The shock can be set from 0-99, with Cola's setting at a mere 20% (and the shock is used maybe once a month or once every other month) and sometimes he'll even respond to the vibration ( perfect, HUMANE solution to training your dog/dogs proper obediance. commands are not suggestions that can be ignored. When using this device, realize that the shock feature is really only needed when training your dog, and that when trained properly, the loud beep feature is all that you will need. There are 3 key features that you will need to become acclimated to: 1) Vibration (power settings 1-9, none of which cause pain - they just get the dogs attention) 2) Audible Beep (the beep is not adjustable - it's set just loud enough to get the dogs attention, without any risk of harming their hearing. It 3) Shock (this should be used on low settings while training your dog to recognize the Vibration as somewhat of a 1st warning, then the Beep which acts as a second and final warning before the Shock feature is needed. First time dog owners that are buying a larger breed puppy (especially breeds that are more known for attacking humans) not only will this make obediance and potty training easier on both the puppy & their owner. I trained my chocolate lab puppy from 8 months until he was just shy of 1-year old. He rarely ignored commands or went outside of our yard (which has no fence and is next to a very busy road). All seemed well and I felt that his training went extrememly well, but when he reached about 1.5 years old, like many Chocolate Labs, he became somewhat awnry - ignoring commands and venturing off into the neighbors yard. Because of this, I knew I needed a device like this to ensure he would follow the rules that I had already drilled into him as a puppy, and that I wasn't going to be able to do it without some type of device. This is my first dog that is not the "family dog", but I grew up with chocolate labs my entire life, helped my father train them, and brought them on pheasant, duck, and goose hunting. I'm 30 now, and have had several great chocolate labs in my life, watched a learned how my father put our puppies over the years through obediance training, so I thought that I had done a great job with Cola as he rarely ignored a command or went outside of our yard, but at around 1.5 years old, Cola unexpectedly began ignoring commands and breaking rules, chewing everything but his chew toys & bones; mostly my blankets, towels, shoes, socks, and flip flops, & hoodies were torn to shreds on a regular basis. This is where I had enough and decided we're doing a round 2 of obedience training. I did some research and quickly decided that the cost of obediance training provided by a local pets shop was far too much and that I'm going to have to give it another go. It took two weeks of teaching cola that if I say a command and he doesn't respond, I use the vibration set to 9 (the highest setting - but he rarely seems to even notice it), followed by a more stern verbal command - and if ignored, I used the Beep feature. At first he would ignore me after the beep, and that's where the shock feature comes in hand. The goal is to train your dog that the vibration is warning one, the beep is your final warning before applying the shock. Do not use the shock on a high level to start! Start at 10 and slowly move up based on how your dog reacts. You don't want to hurt the dog, but teach them that when you hear that beep you need to listen. In less that 2 weeks Cola was 100% aware that when I pressed the beep, he better listen unless he wants a little zap. I keep the vibration setting on 9 (the highest) because it's hard to tell if he even notices is at times - and I have installed the longer prongs due to his thick, stretchy skin/coat. The smaller prongs failed to apply a shock unless the collar was tight - likely very uncomfortable and avoidable with the longer prongs that are included. Overall: This is an amazing tool for obediance training for dogs when used properly and humanely. Don't buy this product just to shock the dog constantly for not listening. Follow the instructions, use the vibration after an ignored command, the beep after the second ignored comand, and lastly a low powered shock. If your dog listens to your command after the vibration or after the beep, reward them with audible praise, cuddles, pets, & scratches - whatever your pet really enjoys. Some people recommmend using treats to reinforce positive behavior, but in my opinion this is counterintuitive to what you're trying to achieve - which is your pet following verbal commands, which should be rewarded by showing them love - some good boy!/good girl! & belly scratches & ear scratches. By adding a treat to the mix, your teaching your dog how to get food out of you, instead of how to obey you because they know you will show them with love and positive verbal praise. 1. Vibration 2. Beep 3. Shock (but remember the goal is to get your pet to follow your command(s) and that the beep should be your primary warning - only applying a shock when he/she is disobeying. My chocolate lab is over 100lbs and I keep the shock at 20 out of 99. You don't need to hurt your pet - i see it like when my father used to flick me on the head with 1 finger because I misbehaved - inflict as little pain as possible - only enough to encourage your pet to really listen to your commands once they hear the beep. If the shock doesn't seem be having affect, test it with the tester provided in the box. You may have to swap out the short silver leads for the longer ones if the shock doesn't seem to work, and lastly - please start low with the shock, I have never exceeded 25 with my large dog - so 50 or 99 could be far too much pain - remember you're teaching your pet! Not punishing him/her! Be patient and persistant! (4) Dogs can be controlled with one controller - each collars settings can be customized for each individual dog. Please start very low when trying out the shock - and based on the size of the dog and how they react to the first few shocks will help you determine whether you need to go up or down in strength. Don't shock him/her to the point where they are afraid of you. You're trying to teach your pet obediance for both the dog, and the owners benefit. I can honestly say this has allowed me to grow closer with Cola and trust him to not destroy my house, clothes, etc. etc. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!! ... show more

I bought this for my Chihuahua Cocker Spaniel mix who has become needy and over protective since I began working at home. She barks at every noise from passing cars to high winds Heaven help when the mailman gets close to the property...and this is all without seeing what she's barking at. When all this is Going on while I'm in a meeting this is problematic. I bought the collar to train her whem it was appropriate to bark and when its not to. I do not have an aggressive dog and never intended to use the shock option. Before i put it on her. I read the directions to fully understand the buttons I was pushing. Its fairly easy to use. Unfortunately even on the most adjusted range it didn't fit well and hung lose. Since I wasnt using the shock level it didn't matter. Using the beep mode worked as it should. If ahe wandered away (not that I let her go leashless) the beep brought her to me. Not because she waz searching for the spund but because it seemed to scare her. When she was barking at the wrong time the beep once again silenced her. However because my baby is part chihuahua, she has that constant nervous energy. The beep will make her stop. We wete getting to the point where she wouldn't always bark at things she normally would. Yet, regardless if it was wandering to far or barking, the beep would cause her to try and jump ib my lap out of fear if I was sitting. i had to rethink the issue. The lo9k of sheer anxiety on her face was painful to watch. I never let her see me actually pusj the button because I never wanted her to be afrain if me. So for those people who say my dog gets afraid and all I have to do is bee seen getting it, thata mot the best ideal I advise everyone to try the shock on your own arm or leg before you put it on your fur baby. Do not kid yourself and say thw fur will buffer the shock. Do clothes buffer the shock on tazed humans? As stated onost of these colors research or talk to a professional. If your dog is large and aggreasive and you think your going to use the shock option to halt aggression, you may only irritate them more. I found without the correct knowledge, beeps may be to much for some and shocksnot enough for others. All in all it is a good quality and value for the money. I am really impressed with these. Mostly have only had to use the beep to get the attention of my dogs. Vibration works well also, but rarely needed. I've only had to use the shock a couple of times and this has stopped the unwanted behavior. I use with a mini-Australian shepherd (28 lbs.) and a mixed breed (90 lbs.) Battery life lasts a long time before needing a charge, but I only use when letting my dogs out to go to the bathroom, so not on long time. ... show more

The transition between shock level is very smooth and provides many levels from not feeling it to painful. This is a tool that does what it is meant to do without hurting your dog (unless you have it full blast which you really shouldn't need) all level are increasing levels of muscle stimulation (it forces your neck muscles to contract) without pain untill around 70. The vibration is good and pretty strong. Sound is sharp and loud enough to be heard but not loud enough to be painful in the dogs ear either.
