I bought this using Amazon Prime to help out my 80 year old mother, who does not have a bathroom on the first floor. She recently has much difficulty walking and getting up the stairs to use the bathroom was becoming increasingly difficult (if not impossible). We've contracted for a new bathroom on the first floor, but until it gets done, we were in a dilemma. Mom used a commode on the first floor, but only as a last resort. I bought this toilet with the hope it would give her a little more dignity than the commode. It has succeeded. I ordered on a Friday and it arrived the following Tuesday. It has been in full usage for a little over a week. It was easy to set up, but too low for her. We built a frame to go around it that elevated it another three and a half inches, to a total of 19 inches. Mom can use her walker and sit securely and safely on this toilet. She's a pretty tiny person, so I'm not sure how this would work with a large person. With arthritis however, she cannot use the flush mechanism, which involves bending a little and pulling out a a lever. Not a real problem, as we just flush it for her when we need to. It did not come with the sample of Liquid Gold deodorant that was stated in the description, so for the first two days I used it without any chemical as I didn't know where to get it. It worked ok without chemical, but it was stinky and nothing broke down (like the toilet paper). So I emptied it twice a day. I found chemicals for the toilet (not the Liquid Gold that's recommended) at a Marine/RV section of a local hardware store. I use Aqua Kem and it works great. Breaks down the waste and the toilet paper (mostly). I am emptying every two days into a toilet (Flushing multiple times). I could let it go longer than that, but it does get heavy with water/waste in the bottom. Overall, I am extremely happy to have this. There is little to no odor, Mom likes using it a million times better than the commode, and it's helped us out immensely. We use the 268 porta-potty for camping convenience, charged with Aqua Kem treatment and deoderizer. We've had zero leaks, absolutely zero odor issues, and it is very simple to use. I have simple operating instructions taped to the top of the lid and require anyone needing to use the toilet to read them and show me they understand how to operate it before using the equipment. Doing so has eliminated any problems with the toilet and maximized the use we get out of it between cleanings. We liked the large holding tank and have no problem making the tank last a week or more between dumps when used by at least two people. For remote camping we charge the flush system with rough filtered grey water (no particles) from our camp showers and dish washes. Then we use the toilet mostly for liquid waste convenience if the camp facilities are too distant or it is the middle of the night. We obviously use it for all body waste disposal if no facilities are available. Even when traveling, we load the potty in the back of the pickup to use when no convenient roadside facilities are available. Open the back and front doors of the crew cab, set the potty in between and you have an instant restroom! When done, throw it in the back of the truck, even the back seat, and get back on the road. The potty cleans up easily. The holding tank pour spout has a flush lid that needs to be removed before it can be connected to the holding tank. The holding tank rinses out thoroughly and then the potty stores nicely until needed again. We've put this potty through its paces, camping in extremely hot and dusty desert environments and cold mountain settings. It has always worked perfectly. I spent a lot of time researching for the best porta-potty and decided this one had the best reviews. I like the fact that it is as tall as our porcelain toilet, the seat is made for an adult, and the bowl is deep. Also, the bowl is slick so all goes down when flushed. I am a little concerned with the pump for the flush system as it is a stem and you have to be careful to pump straight up and down. I noticed the last time I pumped it water came up pass the stem. Not sure if this was condensation built up. Overall, it is serving it's purpose and not leaking from the gray water and seals the waste smell very well. Just be sure to follow the instructions for the deodorizer that comes with the purchase. ... show more
