DIY Van to RV Conversion Guide - How I Converted My Passenger Van into A Campervan Before we start, let me first put your mind at ease by assuring you that a Van to RV conversion is not expensive, I did it, and I am here to share the whole process so you can do it too. If you are like me then you know and agree that most commercially available conversion vans are ugly and expensive. I wanted the luxury and comforts of an RV but in a vehicle that I can easily drive around town. If you are on a limited budget and want to start your new life as a full-time nomad like me, then this is the book for you.Any type of van can be easily and inexpensively converted into a roadworthy and comfortable camper. You can complete the conversion on your own in the comfort of your own backyard with few tools and some basic build knowledge. It’s easy to build the home of your dreams when that home is on wheels! That could be you. Your DIY campervan could take you there.I have just finished my second van to RV camper renovation conversion. The first time, I thought I knew what I was doing but I really didn’t. I didn’t have the help of any sort of guidebook (like you will) when I took on my first project. I thought, “What could go wrong?” Well, I found out what could go wrong! For starters, my girlfriend wasn’t the most comfortable settling into the van. Space wasn’t laid out well and we were constantly tripping over each other. Not to mention that the first go-around, I didn’t create any sort of cabinetry but decided to use milk crates to hold all our stuff. In this second try, I took my time documenting the steps and making better choices. I went a little fancier in the finishes and made the van much more livable for what I hope will be a long-term investment. In my book, I will tell you just how to turn your van into the camper of your dreams. I have also included tons of information for first-time van campers for boondocking, packing lists, and do’s and don’ts for your amazing road trip.In this book, I will direct you on how to transform a van into a camper from scratch. There are many factors to consider when it comes to developing a DIY campervan. Each aspect of your living must be put in place nicely to ensure that you enjoy your life on the road. Since you will be spending most of your time in an RV, you are looking for space while at the same time, you want to include as many luxury features as possible. These aspects should be balanced delicately. You will learn:The history of conversion vansWhat types of vans you can use for your conversion and what each might benefit youHow to make sure your van remains roadworthy and street legalWhat insurance you might considerHow to set a budget (including a look at my conversion budget)What you should do BEFORE you start pulling the old carpeting outHow to create a layout that will work best for youWhat tools and materials you’ll need for your conversionTons of advice for making your life in a van that much easierAnd, of course, comprehensive step-by-step instructional procedures on how to make your van a wonderful home on wheels.Be sure to review the table of contents before you click “Add to Cart” so you can know exactly what you’re getting for your money.I sincerely hope this book helps you achieve your dreams of being a full-time nomad in your own self-made campervan. If I had this book from the start, I would have had a much easier experience! Read more

  • Affordable DIY Conversion Guide
This is a great little manual that'll take you from start to finish in getting different types of vans and motorhomes outfitted into an RV. It goes into which kinds of vans make for the best converted RVs to how many people will fit comfortably to price differences. Of course, the meat of the book are the actual methods to take in converting the van yourself, which is gone into in depth. Every aspect is explained from beginning to end, including the budgetary planning (including a real-life budget from the author's own project) and a tip to consult with professionals on your first job. The author even covers some aspects I wouldn't have thought of, such as general U.S. laws for your converted van and how your car insurance coverage may (or may not) change. Technical requirements for basic function are reviewed, as are modifications that are pretty much never allowed. Different venues for procuring parts are gone over, giving the pros and cons of different kinds of shops (big brand vs. local) as well as buying "unseen" (online). All in all, this is a fantastic guide particularly for those who've experienced #vanlife, and want to take it that extra step further. ... show more

  • Helpful. But...
This book had a lot of useful information. Especially for a beginner. But it did lack some organizational skill, often repeating information, or having steps out of order. It had many mispelled words. It did not give enough information on the harder steps. But overall still helpful.

  • Garbage
I cannot adequately describe how bad this "guide" is. It is 181 pages of very large type and very large line spacing. The table of contents alone is 11 pages. That alone would not be so bad but the "content"--such as it is--is worthless. Inside you will find gems like this typical 2-inch 'paragraph': "BRAKES It is common sense that you need to have functional brakes before getting your car on the road. If your brakes break down, insure that they are repaired in time before you move on." Really? Gee, thanks for that pro tip. Or how about this insider info on pants: "PANTS I would avoid official wear pants if I was in your shoes. In a campsite environment, you may only need your choice of jeans, shorts, leggings, hiking sweatpants, and yoga pants." I wish I were joking. Was this whole book written as a joke? There is precious little information on actually converting a van. There are entire large paragraphs on "utility knife," "marker," "tape measure," each essentially saying you will need one. "You will need a tape measure." I returned it for a refund. Unfortunately, it will end up in one of Amazon's giant return dumps. I am sad for the paper it wasted. It's a scam. Don't fall for it! ... show more

  • No real information!
Extremely basic information that anyone with a modicum of common sense already knows. No in depth information - just a couple of sentences that tell you what to do, but doesn’t really go into detail. Don’t waste your money!

  • Helpful tips but numerous typographical errors
This book has helpful practical information. The information overall is general and number of photos limited. I was surprised by the numerous typographical errors and word errors, unusual in a publication.

  • Not just a DIY manual, but also sage advice for those new to van life
The van life has enjoyed a resurgence in recent times, yet some who now decide they want to try that lifestyle may not be planning ahead—or at all. This book goes into clear detail and depth on how first-time van dwellers should customize their new vehicles, especially if they want to get the full effect of seeing forms of nature and other pleasures that their otherwise stationary living quarters did not fully offer, or at all in some cases. More importantly, the author takes the time and initiative to list which specific types of vans would work best for those new to the van life, taking these characteristics into consideration: how large their families are if they’re not going solo, the amenities they desire to have, such as leather seating, DVD player, radio, et cetera. The author also says one should choose a van depending how much experience they have with DIY and also how much are they willing to apply it to their new homes. But this isn’t a mere DIY instruction manual. It also is a guide of how to stay out of legal trouble, as new van dwellers will really be kept on their toes here. ... show more
