  • Make sure you apply face sunscreen under it as it says in the instructions
I don’t really leave reviews but for this I had to. After applying this serum for a week my black spots Were already clearing big time. I was hesitant in buying this because I have a really sensitive skin. I tried different things before and everything would just burn my face but this didn’t I’m glad I decided it to try it I really recommend it. We all have different skin reactions so you would never know till you try it. ... show more

  • This product worked on my dark spots
About 15 years ago, I used a product with hydroquinone and was very happy with the results. The manufacturer went out of business and the dark spots gradually returned. Over the past 5 years, I've tried many expensive products but without any noticeable results. Differin worked. I could see results within a few days. I read the negative reviews - but I didn't notice any scent at all for the product. It's a treatment serum - not a moisturizer, so I didn't expect it to act like a moisturizer. After the serum has been absorbed, I apply moisturizer. The reviews and comments about the impact of denatured alcohol and skin aging were confusing to me. 1. I looked at a few articles and understood that many skincare products contain alcohols which assist with delivery of the product into your skin. Look for ingredients like retinol, cetyl, stearyl, glycol denatured alcohol or ethanol. 2. Denatured alcohol and ethanol are evaporative alcohols, which means that they help to deliver the product by penetrating the skin before the evaporation occurs. As an example, these ingredients are found in hand sanitizer, sunscreens or toners. These alcohols feel cool when you apply the product but can dehydrate your skin. One article claimed that denatured alcohol or ethanol could cause enlarged pores - and that over time, the enlarged pores would absorb oils and make your skin feel greasy. Another article stated that evaporative alcohols are solvents (yes, that's true) and that absorbing the solvents could pose a potential health risk. This impact was studied on skin samples in a lab dish (called an in vitro study) in which alcohol was applied directly to the sample and left there for hours. However, another article explained that 97% of the alcohol evaporates when applied to the skin. It would have to be absorbed in massive amounts. 3. I learned that denatured alcohol isn’t toxic at the levels needed for cosmetics, but can cause dryness or disturb the skin's natural barrier. This past year, we've all been applying hand sanitizer and we know that it can dry out or irritate the skin on our hands. My advice is to try this product and continue to use moisturizer. I've spent hundreds of dollars on expensive products, without any noticeable results. This product works. ... show more

  • Magic in a bottle
So I feel very silly. I spent a stupid amount of money on IPL treatments for my age spots and this little bottle of magic has done a much better job of lightening my spots and I still have half a bottle left. Well, live and learn. If you have hyperpigmentation, this stuff will do the trick at a fraction of the price of designers solutions. Apply twice a day and don’t forget your sunscreen. My photos are less then a month apart and I have no doubt at this point that my spots will continue to lighten. ... show more

  • Dark Spot Corrector
Differin Dark Spot Correcting Serum contains 2% hydroquinone the highest percent of hydroquinone available over the counter. And hydroquinone is considered to be the most effect skin bleaching agent on the market. That said, it has a checkered history. It has been linked to cancer and a rare condition called ochronosis where skin becomes darker and tougher. For that reason the ingredient is banned in Japan, Australia and Europe. It is considered safe by the FDA however so it is sold in the states in a variety of products to fight dark spots, freckles, sun spots and other dark areas. But some dermatologists suggest trying other products first to stay on the safe side. I found the Differin to go on easily and I did not find the fragrance offensive as others have. It is supposed to take weeks to work so I can't tell yet. But I will say that I prefer to mix it with a little moisturizer to prevent dryness and spread a thin layer over the entire area instead of just spots. I have read that it can lighten skin surrounding the dark spots causing a 'halo' effect. So I think a thin layer over all is best. Hydroquinone has a strong track record of helping with skin lightening but because of the risks associated with it I think everyone needs to proceed carefully, especially dark skin tones that may be subject to hyperpigmentation. I think the company should share possible problems and cautions in the material with the product but Differin did not. ... show more

  • After a month I found it works.
Kind of a sticky feel but use it 1-2x a day and after a month it has faded my dark spots, which I’ve had for 6 years significantly. My dermatologist conned me into buying their skin care line of wipes which didn’t work. This has worked. I will continue to use. Makes me look years younger.

  • In love
I've literally used this for two days (not long I know) but I can tell a difference already! Not to mention this makes my skin feel so smooth and soft. It's also so lightweight too. I'm looking forward to seeing the results and gaining my confidence back! Thank you Differin! Goodbye acne scars!

  • Watch out for denatured alcohol!
The second ingredient in this product listed by volume is denatured alcohol. Look up its use in skincare products. It’s a major irritant that’s known to interfere with the normal functioning of your moisture barrier and can even damage the bonds between living skin cells. It’s typically used to create a “cooling” sensation on the skin or increase absorption of certain ingredients, but any short-term benefits are typically outweighed by the long-term damage it causes. I’m astonished a pharmaceutical company would release a product with this much denatured alcohol, especially when it’s supposed to be applied to skin that’s already been sensitized by acne and retinoids. ... show more
