The product works as advertised. Switching from a gas trimmer and plug in blower this kit is a huge improvement! The battery lasted long enough for me to manage trimming and blowing grass clippings on my 1/2 acre suburban plot. The tools are significantly lighter in weight from the tools they are repl and my joints really appreciate that. There are some issues with the trimmer. The unit breaks apart in the middle for shipping and is clamped together during assembly. No mater how tight I get the joining clamp there is still a bit of wobble between the two halves. A minor annoyance for sure, but I am used to my DeWalt tools being rock solid. The major issue is the trimmer guard. It might as well not even be there. It is so small as to offer little protection from kicked up rocks and sticks. I will be wearing shin guards when using this unit, an issue trimmers with larger guards do not have to this degr. Also, the blade that trims the line as it is unspooled is dull new out of the box. The trimmer struggles to get the new line cut to length when bumped. ... show more

Electrician for 25 years now and owner of dozens of DeWalt battery and corded tools. This string trimmer is by far the weakest of any of them. Now I wasn't expecting it to be a tree chopper, but this thing is so weak that dead grass gives it a fight. Forget anything remotely stronger than grass...like tough weeds, forget it. It needs to be run wide open or it just won't cut, takes forever doing so, and drains the battery in short order. Note the size of the cutting head. It's so tall that getting under things is not gonna happen, and that also makes it bump the string feeder and causes the string line (the string that is included is garbage) to feed excessively. I know what you're thinking; I'm asking too much of it, trying to over work it. No, not at all. I've actually been very un-demanding of the tool. I like DeWalt tools most of them I've had have been rock tough, but this thing is a toy. An expensive toy. I really don't know who could use this, I keep thinking someone with real light duty needs, but it just doesn't go to work even on the most light weight tasks. Really disappointed in this, pretty much useless and has me reconsidering automatically buying DeWalt as my go-to tools. And obviously, I still need a string trimmer that cuts. I bought it in a package deal that includes the leaf blower. Now that works very well and moves big piles of leaves, and living in the mountains we have lots of leaves. Real happy with that item, but that's not why I bought the package. The string trimmer is a bad joke. I dunno, maybe you could wrap the window shade string around it and use it to move the shades up and down. ... show more
