  • Great deal for the cost. For a homelab, better than celeron based mini-pc
I got the Dell Optiplex 7050 micro PC renewed instead of a similarly priced or slightly more expensive celeron based mini PC. The PC arrived just as described. It was in great working order. Dell did a good job making it easy to access the memory and SSD slot. The computer looked very nice and clean. The specs for my Optiplex was an Intel i5 6500T processor with 16 gig memory (dual channel 8 gig memory sticks). The Optiplex I got had windows 10, a USB wifi dongle included along with a keyboard and mouse. I am not using the wifi dongle, keyboard or mouse since I am using it as a proxmox server. The computer is relatively quiet. I do not hear the fan under normal use. For the price, this would make a great general office/web surfing computer. I plan on buying more of these in the future. ... show more

  • Great budget machine!
I bought this to use as a server for my home network. It comes pre-installed with Windows 10 Pro, using a digital license. So setting up windows is a breeze. The hardware specs are just as described, 16 gigs of RAM is pretty much all the RAM your average user would ever need. Quad core processor at decent speeds. If you're looking for a budget desktop PC, this is a great choice. It will run everything you'll need. It probably will not handle gaming very well, since it's working off integrated graphics. So this isn't a gaming PC. My order came with a mouse and keyboard combo too, which was a nice surprise! I'll be buying more of these in the future, I'm sure. Great deal! ... show more

  • Great for office uses, but not all resellers are equal.
For those considering this machine, please read carefully. I selected a reseller with a price higher than the lowest offered. Why? Because at the time of my selection, the lowest price seller had 71% satisfaction rating, but for $6 more I selected another seller with a 90% satisfaction rating (TekRefurbs.com). This is especially important with a renewed computer! Many reviews reflect problems due to the differences in resellers, so it pays to select carefully. The first thing I did on receiving the computer was open the case and remove the new 256 GB ssd, and install a 1 TB nvme ssd into the m.2 socket, and a 2 TB ssd into the hard drive caddy and reinstalled the caddy and closed the case. The computer was spotless inside and out. The next step is very important. I went to the Dell website and downloaded the BIOS update. I run linux on a multi boot system, but linux cannot install the new bios so I booted into windows for the bios update. Just follow the on screen instructions and the update takes just a few minutes. It is crucial to update the bios as the machine is vulnerable until it is done. The machcine is capable of running Windows 11, but apparently the Windows 10 Pro that comes with the computer will not allow updating. Since I did not install Windows 10, but moved my existing drives into the computer, I was all set with Windows 11. Many users prefer Windows 10. I recommend before buying or receiving the computer that the user/owner manual in pdf format be downloaded from the dell site as it is really mandatory if you are going to get your newly renewed machine set up properly. Curiously this computer will run with either the 65 watt or the 130 watt power supply cord; mine came with the 65 watt power supply and it works flawlessy. There are also two other m.2 sockets on the motherboard for WLAN and WWAN cards as shown in the manual for those who want or need them. The cards and cables and antenna are available on Amazon. I hope this information is useful to any who take time to read it. The machines are not for gamers as they do not have the graphics horsepower for that use, but are great for other applications if you choose the reseller carefully. It is a shame the machines suffer less than stellar ratings due to the disparities between reseller preparations. Choose wisely and you will be rewarded. ... show more

  • Good, but inconsistent.
I needed a couple of cheap workstations for an auto workshop and purchased two of these, a week apart. Both are functional, but the two computers appear to have been refurbished by different companies, have differing hardware, and different issues. The included keyboards and mice were also of differing brands, though these peripherals were brand new on both computers. 7050 #1 ------------- The good: Arrived well packaged in professionally produced protective padding, with labeling indicating that it was refurbished by "CNB Computers". Computer itself was absolutely pristine and looked brand new. This unit was assembled in Mexico. Opening the top confirmed that it had a new 256Gb SSD as advertised and the correct RAM. Again, the interior was immaculate and didn't have even the slightest sign of dust or wear. The unit did include an empty M.2 slot, had an internal M.2 wireless adapter, and included the wifi antenna. The bad: The included power supply was not powerful enough to boot the computer fully, forcing the computer to run in "low battery mode" at less than 1Ghz. It was EXTREMELY slow. Connecting it to an appropriate power supply fixed this problem. The included power supply was not usable. Additionally, for some reason, the Windows installation keeps installing Spanish language components. An OS reset did not fix this problem, and a clean OS installation will be my next move. I'll update the review if this resolves the problem. 7050 #2 ----------- The good: Arrived quickly with documentation indicating that it was refurbished by "SJ Computers". Included the proper Dell power supply and booted immediately without any problems. This unit was assembled in China. Opening the top revealed that it contained a 256Gb M.2 drive, and not the slower SSD that was advertised (that's a bonus!) USB wifi dongle was attached to exterior of the case. The licensed Windows installation ran without issues or errors. The bad: The unit was poorly packaged using cardboard and shrink wrap with very little to protect it. The case itself was FILTHY, with dust and sharpie marks on the case immediately noticeable. Someone had tried to scribble out some of the printing on the exterior. The rear of the case showed some bending, suggesting that the unit was dropped or crushed at some point. The filler for the serial port was missing, opening a hole in the back of the case. These issues were purely cosmetic. Internally, I found even more dust in the fan and air vents. It was obvious that it had been cleaned, but not nearly as thoroughly as the first unit. This unit also did not include the internal wifi adapter or antenna, swapping them out for the USB dongle instead. Overall, I'm fairly happy with both units for the price. While both computers had minor issues and required some work before putting them to use, these are a steal for the price. Spending an additional fifteen dollars on a new power supply, or a half-hour removing some dust and cleaning up a marked case, is a small price to pay for the price/performance ratio of these computers. I wouldn't use them as my main computer, but they're a good option if you're looking for a cheap workstation or a media PC. Update: Clean OS installation did fix 7050 #1. That computer is now working without any problems. HOWEVER. I utterly failed to notice that the case for 7050 #2 was completely wrong! Those sharpie marks I mentioned? Yeah, they were covering the fact that it's an Optiplex 5050 case. It contains a 7050 motherboard and works fine, but the USB C port doesn't fit correctly. My guess is that the PC was crushed at some point (the bent rear I mentioned) and they just replaced the case top with whatever they had lying around. It sort of works, but it's very unprofessional. Between the dust and the damage, I no longer believe that any real effort was put into refurbishing 7050 #2. If this were being installed anywhere other than an auto shop, I'd be sending it back for an exchange. Update 2: Reached out to SJ Computers about the top not fitting and some of the physical damage. The company immediately shipped me a new system to replace the #2 unit. The replacement looks brand new. No damage, no problems. Opened the top and it's as clean as the day it was built. Absolutely no problems with it whatsoever, and the vendor was great to work with. Adding a star. ... show more
