Some days we had it start and take an hour for full brightness and other days 15-30 minutes to full brightness. Living in an area where blackout curtains are a necessity, I struggled to wake up naturally in the morning with the artificial darkness and cozy bedding in my room. That's why I was thrilled to discover the Dekala Sunrise Alarm Clock, Smart Wake-Up Light controllable through a convenient phone app. First impressions were positive, with the clock boasting a sleek design that doesn't overwhelm the nightstand space. Its sturdy base ensured it remained stable even when hitting the top button to silence the alarm. Exploring the app, I experimented with different wake-up sounds. While the idea of bells and chimes appealed to me, they didn't quite provide the soothing wake-up experience I desired. Similarly, the bird sound proved too grating due to its high-pitched notes, leading me to opt for a soundless wake-up, accompanied only by the simulated sunrise. However, when Daylight Saving Time rolled around, the clock failed to update automatically. I reaching out to Dekala through the app and included screenshots. I didn’t get a message back, but fortunately, they resolved the issue remotely, and the clock functioned correctly the next morning. The next challenge was the ongoing frustration with the "long press" required to disable the alarm, causing the clock to enter snooze mode. Despite weeks of use, this issue persisted. Hitting the button five times in an attempt to turn off the sunrise alarm is excessive. Last night was the straw that broke the camels back. The sunrise alarm failed to activate altogether. I checked the setting in the app, and yes, it was set to ON, and should have woken me up. Thankfully, it is just a few days shy of the 30-day mark, so I initiated a return request. After all, what's the point of an alarm clock if it can't be trusted to wake you up? UPDATE: Dekala reached out to me in response to my review, and provided the following helpful information. Too bad my return window was up and I already returned the item. I changed my review from 3 stars to 4 stars for their efforts. Thank you for bringing the issues to our attention. We truly appreciate your willingness to give the Dekala Sunrise Alarm Clock a try, and we're sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet your expectations. We would like to address some of the concerns you've raised and offer further assistance in hopes that you might consider giving our product another chance: 1. Disabling the Alarm: We understand the frustration with the "long press" feature. To clarify, when the alarm goes off, you only need to short-press the corresponding alarm button to turn it off immediately. Pressing the snooze button on the top will put the alarm only into snooze mode, after the snooze time you set, the alarm will go off again. 2. Activation Issue: If the app shows the alarm is set to ON, please ensure that the corresponding alarm icon is displayed on the clock's screen, indicating that the alarm is active. A missing icon might suggest the alarm wasn't activated. Additionally, if you've connected to Alexa or Google Assistant, certain voice commands might inadvertently disable the alarm, please stop them. To help us investigate further and provide a more detailed solution, could you please send us the device's virtual ID? You can find the steps to locate the virtual ID in the attached picture. This works great! I am no longer jolted awake by a jarring alarm clock and am instead slowly woken up. I had looked at others and they make you have a subscription.
