  • I Was Skeptical...
I had my doubts about this rack. There just weren't enough reviews on it for me to trust it especially for rooftop tents. I was also worried about weight when we slept it in as I am a bigger fellow. I can tell you now, after taking the lead to buy the Dee Zee Rack for my 2018 Jeep JL that it really does hold up. I have gone off-roading with it and even did a river crossing and it held up just fine. I do want to say that I heard a lot of squeaking that was making me go insane as I was driving and it took me a while to find but finally after pulling over for the 5th time I realized that it was one of the legs on the rack that goes on top of the roof. We fixed it by just putting some oil in the ball joint so that it doesn't squeak anymore. Installation was really simple and easy to put together with a helping hand. Overall, the rack was great for holding up my rooftop tent, an FSR High Country 55". I hit a lot of bumps and off-road trails along the way but managed just fine. We slept in the tent with no issues, 2 adults and a small dog. Would definitely recommend it! I will update with anything else as we take more trips. ... show more

  • Great rack.
Use the front 2 bars on the rear section and it’s super solid. Holds our giant Smittybilt XL rtt just fine, no issues. Family of 5 have slept up there no problem. Also if you can get it on sale for around $270 it’s a no brainer 👍🏼

  • Almost a 5-star
Love this rack and very self explanatory setup! Was fun putting it all together! Unfortunately I was missing the washers for the 60” portion of the rack that go on the ‘cross plate brackets’. Hopefully I get some sent so I can complete the install. I’ll update once I have it all together. Looks very promising!! ... show more

  • Great product
I have ordered many things from amazon and have never written a review until now. I bought this rack to put on my 2021 Jeep JL. It went on without much trouble, there are a few times that it was hard to get hand in places once we installed our roof top tent. I would suggest this rack to anyone who is looking for something nice and strong but doesn't want to have to modify their jeep to much. So far we love it and really like it. ... show more

  • Manufacturer doesn’t respond if you have any missing hardware
Bought this to mount my rooftop tent on top of my JL and after getting it 80% installed and onto the last cross bar found out two of the supporting feet that rest against the hardtop had their threads missing and no way to finish mounting this for my upcoming camping trip. Reaching out to the manufacturer and they haven’t responded after 4 business days so I’m sitting here with a useless roof rack and a ruined trip. ... show more

  • Awesome budget rack. No permanent modifications.
I've been running this rack for about two weeks now and have been very pleasantly surprised. If you're not wanting to permanently modify your hardtop on your Jeep then this is definitely worth a look. I've found the wind noise to be extremely minimal. I think DeeZee is now including a wind fairing with the rack that helps significantly. As one reviewer mentioned, this is sort of like an "erector set" in that it's highly customizable and, in some ways, a little rudimentary compared to other racks (though most of them also cost significantly more money AND, again, require permanent modifications to your top). We loaded up some modified rifle cases for storage and the rack didn't even flinch on an off-road outing. VERY IMPRESSED. ... show more

  • This is a legit no-drill roof rack, strong enough to handle the Maze District of Canyonlands, Utah
This rack is legit. I recently used this rack with a rigid top tent (an Autohome Maggiolina Grand Tour) weighing around 130-140lbs. I drove from California to Hanksville, UT proving the rack with a load at interstate speeds of 80mph on the I-70. Then I drove through Glen Canyon National Recreation Area camping at Panorama Point and then down to The Dollhouse in the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park. The rack performed great, it withstood the jarring terrain (it took 7 hours of driving to get from Panorama Point to Dollhouse which is a mix of rocky terrain, rocky switchbacks and the technical stair step obstacles in the Teapot rock area). Noise without a tent I found to be negligible, certainly not louder than the BFG K02s, or the BFG KM3s that I used on my recent Utah trip. However, the rack proved to be squeaky on the 4x4 trails with the load of a mounted tent as would be expected. A few pointers with this rack if you are planning on doing anything like the roads I described: 1. Replace the nuts that are used to secure the racks to the gutter with stainless nylock nuts (this will give added protection from vibrations that could otherwise loosen the rack hardware). 2. When mounting a tent, it’s best to have the rack unbolted to the Jeep, then put a couple 2x4s (or something similar) under the rack to lift it up. Secure the tent mounting hardware while the rack is raised, then remove the 2x4’s and tighten the rack’s gutter mounts. This makes getting access to the tent mounting hardware much easier. 3. Use blue loctite on all of the hardware (especially since the cross members and other components are secured using M5 Allen head fasteners and T nuts). 4. If using a clamshell style tent, the front part of the rack will have very little usability depending on how long the tent is. You might consider installing the front cross bars on the back section, giving additional strength to the rack and also further dispersing the weight of the tent from four points to eight. I will be doing this mod very soon. 5. I carry extra mounting hardware for the rack and the tent, and the necessary tools in an easy to access zippered pouch. This makes it very easy to periodically check all of the securing hardware when in the backcountry. I have had no problems with nuts vibrating loose, but the Allen heads will require adjustments from time to time. 6. The load bearing feet do need to be adjusted frequently as they do loosen easily. They can’t back off all the way, so don’t worry about that, but I find these feet to be the primary source squeaky noise. When driving around I tighten them a bit more than just touching the roof of the Jeep; maybe an extra turn after touching the fiberglass roof, that cuts down on a lot of noise. The powder coating seems to be fine and has held up to the abuses so far. Other Things to consider: 1. If you plan on buying a roof top tent and having it professionally installed, you might run into problems as the tent manufactures are not familiar with this product and don’t recommend gutter mounted racks on the fiberglass shells of Jeep JKs and JLs. You most likely will have to mount the tent yourself if you want to use a rack like this as companies like CVT are not willing to install it on such a rack. My opinion is if you use all four cross members on the main rack it will increase the strength of the rack (which is already strong), any tent mounted that way would be very secure. 2. Dee Zee’s proprietary extrusion design means that you can’t use many accessories from other rack manufactures. I don’t particularly like their extrusion design, especially since Dee Zee does not really offer much in the way of accessories for the rack. They have some tie-downs and that’s about it. Despite its limitations this rack has been great for my use and has proven itself in tougher conditions than most people would probably expose it to. For tents in 130-150lbs range, I think this is the only no-drill rack that is worth considering. ... show more
