  • Fits perfectly
Size: 4x3x2"
It fits the lens it’s designed for, can be reversed and left on just as easily, and it serves its purpose without any vignetting of the shot. I have no complaints.

  • Good for the price, but IS NOT an official Nikon hood.
Size: for NIKKOR 18-300mm 3.5-5.6G ED
I purchased a used 24-70 that didn't come with a hood. (Original owner lost it somewhere) The official Nikon HB40 hood costs over $40 so I decided to try this one. At $8 with free shipping, it's less than a quarter of the price of the official Nikon one. I received it in 2 days as Prime promised and so far I'm happy with it. It feels a bit different compared to the Nikon version, though. This hood feels like more of a matte finish while the Nikon hood is much smoother and a little glossy. The hood fits snugly on the lens -- maybe a little too snugly. The size of the hole for the lens to go to is a touch too small, so it is a bit tight on the barrel of the lens when mounting and dismounting. My guess is that it will get better over time. It also has the locking button, like the genuine version, which is nice. This hood does bear the Nikon logo, as shown in the picture. I guess I prefer this to the more generic labels, but this hood will fool no one that has felt a real Nikon hood. I would prefer the Nikon hood over this any day, but I'm not sure if I would want to spend 5 times the price for the exact same thing made with a different type of plastic. Overall my only criticism is that it fits a little too snugly and feels cheap, but for the price, it's worth it. ... show more

  • feel like name brand
Size: for HB-46
i got this because my dad gave me his old nikon with lenses but none of the hoods (I think he lost them) and this one fits just like the stock one I had on my older nikon.

  • Does what a lens hood should & saved me $20
Size: for HB-69
With some of the mixed reviews, I was a little hesitant not buying the official Nikon hood. However, I quadruple checked this is the hood for my lens, and the hood fits just fine, snaps into place (for use or storage on the lens) with no problems. I haven't fully processed any of my pictures from my recent trip last week, but from zooming in on the back of the camera I didn't notice any additional vignetting (besides the small vignette the lens had anyway) or have the hood appear in the edge any of the images. I think (keyword "think" - obviously I could be wrong) that most people's problems with the hood is that they did not verify this is the correct hood for their lens. The falling off easily is also due to not fully snapping it into place. The first time I put it on I thought the same, but then gave it an extra twist and then it "clicked" and I haven't had any issues since. I'd definitely recommend this over the overpriced, Nikon brand-name hood. ... show more

  • Works but not perfect
Size: for HB-47
For the price, it works and works ok. I found that it doesn't always want to mount correctly. Took some time to get it connected to the lens. I'm sure the factory Nikon one will mount easier, however that one is almost $30 more. Once you get past the way it mounts, it seems like it will protect the end of the lens well. ... show more

  • EDIT- Falls off- Turn further til it clicks!!!!
Size: for HB-69
I am editing a previous review that I gave this thing from a 1-star to a 5-star. My concern before was that it was too loose and would easily fall off. The problem was that I hadn't turned it far enough to click into place. Now that I've done that it's pretty much perfect!!! Feeling like a real dummy over here, but I'm writing in the hopes that others who encounter this problem will find this helpful, and most importantly, make use of this hood. I'm so happy- I felt like a chump before but now am excited to make use of it (it had been sitting around collecting dust!) ... show more
