I wish I looked at this one closer before ordering it. I am a Contractor and Business Owner and I am always on the run. I saw this in passing and I needed another board bender to keep on another job trailer at all times and I thought “perfect! Order it!” to myself when I saw it. Had I looked at it closer I most likely would have skipped it. Now that I have it in hand I 100% would skip it. It is super “light duty” in my opinion. Cuts were made in the square tubing to make the bends and then a small spot weld was made JUST AT THE CORNERS of the tubing to hold it. The cuts can still be seen through. The bar stock is thin walled and not made of a gauge that a tool like this should be made from. It has plastic end caps that just get tapped in the ends and everything is a slip fit or a clevis pin assembly. Even the "joists grabbing pins' are HOLLOW and only attached with few spot welds. Any sort of REAL pressure applied to this handle and it will break or bend….without even getting the job done. This may work for small deck build where the lumber supply is mostly straight but in my world, lumber looks like it came from a Twizzler factory these days and this tool would not get me through even a 8’x10’ small deck. I would not order this again. It is “light duty” and maybe it would be ok to help get a one-time build done but it is not something I would get again. Now I know…..and so do you. It might be ok for certain people in certain circumstances but I wouldn’t put all my eggs in this basket and rely on it to get me to the finish line on a build. ... show more

    • Yes, it's made from thin metal but I was able to bend some badly wrapped decking boards with it
Like others have said, it's not made from thick metal so when I first got it I felt the same as others, that it was too weak to do the job. But, unlike the others, I decided to put it to the test. There's two round tubes that slide on each side of the joist. These are held in place with 3 very small tack welds. But the tubes fit into holes drilled into the square tube so the welds are just for holding the tubes in place, not taking the brunt of the force. I don't know if this would be the tool I would want if I was a contractor who builds lots of decks. I'm not convinced it would handle the abuse of being on a jobsite or tossed around in the back of a truck for years. But for the handyman who doesn't do very many decks. Everything about this product is a bad idea. The thin wall tube will bend or break if more than a small amount of force is put on it. The handle is cut and bent, then only TACK WELDED at the corners. This is the weakest point, and you are likely to get hurt when it breaks. The "business" end looks rigid in the photos, but flops around loosely, fastened only by a light duty clevis and a very small cotter pin. For construction, you need this to be solid, durable, and able to be used one-handed so you can drive a nail or screw with the other hand. This fails all three tests. ... show more

I ordered this for my husband to use while working on the deck. He has been adding a large extension on for the past few months, working on it when he can. I thought this might be easier than the self devised clamping system he currently uses. The metal is so thin and the apparatus so flimsy, we're afraid for him to use this. I must admit that I was a bit disappointed when I saw this light duty spot-welded device. The metal is quite thin, and I can’t imagine it would hold up for long on serious deck projects. I would guess that it would be fine to straighten the occasional board on a project or two, but this simply is not beefy enough to be considered a professional tool by any stretch. I’m concerned that the bar could very well bend (or have a weld break) if you needed to really pry hard on an extremely bowed plank. ... show more

This is the first deck straightener I have ordered and thought "hey this will come in handy" since I do a lot of deck repairs. Wrong. It is so flimsy that is you or any pressure on it it acts like it wants to bend. The construction I could have done better in my garage. The weld is awful and the metal to thin to withstand the pressure of a deck board. I will invest in a much heavier tool. This i am afraid will hurt somebody. Tried it and it failed. ... show more
