Description

In DEATHLOOP, two rival assassins are trapped in a mysterious timeloop on the island of Blackreef, doomed to repeat the same day for eternity. As Colt, the only chance for escape is to end the cycle by assassinating eight key targets before the day resets. Learn from each cycle - try new paths, gather intel, and find new weapons and abilities. Do whatever it takes to break the loop. IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED... DIE, DIE AGAIN: Every new loop is an opportunity to change things up. Use the knowledge you gain from each attempt to change up your playstyle, stealthily sneaking through levels or barreling into the fight, guns-blazing. In each loop you’ll discover new secrets, gather intel on your targets as well as the island of Blackreef, and expand your arsenal. Armed with a host of otherworldly abilities and savage weaponry, you’ll utilize every tool at your command to execute takedowns that are as striking as they are devastating. SINGLE PLAYER GAMEPLAY INJECTED WITH DEADLY MULTIPLAYER: Are you the hero or the villain? You’ll experience DEATHLOOP’s main story as Colt, hunting down targets across the island of Blackreef to break the loop and earn your freedom. All the while, you’ll be hunted by your rival Julianna, who can be controlled by another player. So if you’re feeling devious, you, too, can step into Julianna’s stylish sneakers and invade another player’s campaign to kill Colt. The multiplayer experience is completely optional, and players can choose to have Julianna controlled by AI within their campaign. THE ISLAND OF BLACKREEF – PARADISE OR PRISON: Arkane is renowned for magnificently artistic worlds with multiple pathways and emergent gameplay. DEATHLOOP will present a stunning, retro-future, 60s-inspired environment, that feels like a character within itself. While Blackreef may be a stylish wonderland, for Colt it is his prison, a world ruled by decadence where death has no meaning, and delinquents party forever while keeping him captive.

  • Unless you're a big Arkane studios fan, Wait for a decent sale!!
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
Deathloop is a First Person Shooter developed by Arkane Studios, who previously released games such as Dishonored and Prey. Player character Colt is trapped on an island in a Groundhog Day style time loop caused by some kind of science experiment, and the only way to break the loop is to kill the eight bosses whose life force is powering the loop. Gameplay • The island contains four locations which you can visit at four separate times of the day. Depending on which time you choose to visit a location, different events will occur, the locations of enemies will change, and there will be small changes to the map layout such as whether or not a door is locked. There are also a few situations where your actions will have an effect later in the day. • When Colt either dies, or reaches the end of the day, he’ll wake up back at the start of the loop. However the game isn’t as punishing as that sounds. Colt has a special ability called Reprise, which allows him to respawn twice per location, so it actually takes three deaths to reset the loop. And fairly early in the game you’ll unlock the ability to permanently keep weapons and other upgrades in your inventory for future loops. • Weapons include pistol, shotgun, bolt action rifle, sniper rifle, nailgun and smg. Higher quality versions of each weapon will have special effects such as explosive rounds or leeching enemy health back to you, and mod slots which allow you to customise weapons with things like better accuracy and faster reloads. You can also hack enemy turrets and pick them up to move them around (similar to Prey). • Some bosses have their own unique special power which you can collect and equip after killing them. My favourites were very similar to powers from Dishonored – shift allows you to teleport across gaps, up to building roofs, or right behind an unsuspecting enemy, and nexus links nearby enemies together so that killing one kills them all. A third power turns you invisible for a short time, and there are two more that I didn’t use. Killing the same boss multiple times allows you to upgrade these powers with extra effects. • Most enemies aren’t particularly tough, but each location tends to have a lot of them and prolonged firefights will draw more to the area, so you could decide to be stealthy and sneak up behind enemies to use a sword for silent takedowns. • Going loud also has a chance to summon Julianna, Colt’s nemesis, to the area. Julianna wants to protect the loop, which means killing Colt. She can use any of the bosses’ powers as well as a powerful sniper rifle, and she can be controlled either by another player, or by AI if you’d prefer to disable multiplayer invasions. • Similar to Prey Mooncrash, your first few loops won’t really be about beating the game, but rather gathering information about when the bosses might be vulnerable, finding codes to open doors and safes (which you’ll always remember once found), and collecting better weapons and abilities, until you’re ready to actually break the loop. • My only real disappointment with the gameplay is kind of a spoiler. Story • Time loop stories have been done often in various films, TV shows and games. This one is fairly standard, but I felt like the ending left some of the more mysterious questions unanswered. A lot of the detail comes from reading notes and listening to audio tapes, so its possible that I missed some things by not exploring fully. • Best part of the story is the taunting and banter between Colt and Julianna, who contact each other over a radio multiple times a day. I got the sense that they simultaneously hate each other while enjoying their rivalry. They must have a lot of unique dialogue because I don’t recall any repeats across all the loops I played through. Technical • Controls are fully rebindable and work well with mouse and keyboard. • I didn’t notice any bugs, crashes or framerate problems. • It took me just under 18 hours to finish the game. Recommendation Deathloop is a good game which should be enjoyed by fans of First Person Shooters, and especially fans of Arkane’s other games, although I would advise waiting for a sale. ... show more

  • Includes Steam Code
Platform For Display: PC Edition: Standard
It's a great game. There are dozens of reviews of Deathloop, and I presume you know what you're buying. The most prevalent question on the web is exactly what you're getting if you buy the package online. So what you get is a physical CD (which still requires a broadband internet connection) and yes, a Steam activation code. If you already have a Steam account, you just need the activation code. Okay? Have fun. ... show more
