Frequently asked questions

The HTC VIVE Base Station 2.0 can support a play area of up to 7 meters diagonally, which provides users with a maximum space of approximately 20 by 20 feet to enjoy room-scale VR experiences. For optimal performance, a minimum setup of 2x2 meters is recommended.

The HTC VIVE Base Station 2.0 is designed to work with VIVE Pro, VIVE Pro Eye, VIVE Cosmos Elite, and Valve Index VR headsets. Compatibility with other headsets is not guaranteed as the base station uses SteamVR tracking technology specific to these devices.

For a basic room-scale setup, you will need at least two HTC VIVE Base Stations. For larger play areas or to enhance tracking accuracy, up to four base stations can be used.

Yes, each HTC VIVE Base Station 2.0 comes with a standard wall mount and screws for installation. Additional mounting solutions such as tripods or clamp mounts can be purchased separately if preferred for your setup.

The collected user feedback on this Base Station 2.0 indicates that it is generally perceived as a solid product that works great with the quest and is easy to install. It boasts streamlined integration with SteamVR and effortless configuration, though some users received defective units that were quickly replaced by the manufacturer. Attention is drawn to its flawless tracking capabilities, though the absence of mounting hardware and a shorter power cord than expected were noted by purchasers.

Pros

  • 👍 Easy to program and works efficiently with Quest
  • 👍 Easy installation process
  • 👍 Remarkable tracking accuracy
  • 👍 Replacement and recycling program for defective units
  • 👍 Compatibility with SteamVR

Should I Buy It?

If you're in need of a reliable VR base station and are prepared to handle a potential initial hiccup with defects or the absence of mounting hardware, this Base Station 2.0 could be a good purchase. Its performance in tracking and compatibility with VR setups, once operational, is praised. However, take note of the higher cost and be ready for potentially buying additional accessories like a mount or a longer power cord.

  • Yes yes yes
Edition: Base Station 2.0
I'm so glad I got this, I got it as a third base station when I ordered my index, but it sady came with a broken base station so this one saved me, it connected and works great with my index and 3 trackers it is a little shaky and you can hear it but that could be user error, I've had it for almost 2 years and I'm so glad I got it, I'll be getting another one hopefully soon ... show more

  • No mount and cord is shorter
Edition: Base Station 2.0
Like other reviews have stated there is no mount. You will have to buy a stand or mount separate. The cord is also a lot shorter (maybe about 5 feet) than the one that came with my Steam VR set. So plan accordingly. It is steamVR compatible. If this is your 3rd+ base station when you first start steamVR you may get notified that you need to change the channels on the base stations. The steamVR popup window will guide you through this process. If they add the mount and increase the length of the cord. I will raise it to 5 stars. This base station is $50 more than it is on the steam store (but at least it is available). edit: I had a mechanical failure under a year. HOWEVER vive replaced it for free and even has a recycling program for the old broken one. Because of this I am raising it to 5 stars for the time being (I will lower it back to 4 if this one dies under a year as well). ... show more

  • Shipping can damage base station
Edition: Base Station 2.0
These things work great, you'll find yourself here because steam refuses to restock these. For someone desperate, paying the extra $50 for the same product with no mounting hardware is your choice. I was in need of a 3rd due to PlaySpace lighting and coverage issues. Ordered 1 and it shipped relatively quickly. Died about 2 weeks in so I sent it back to amazon and requested another one. Replacement arrived with red light of death already appearing, so I am now returning that one with a new replacement on the way. I have found most of these break during shipping due to how fragile they are. Amazon customer support is great and refunds you no problem if it breaks within 30 days, if not good luck with HTC support on replacement. If it survives shipping it should be good to go. Ill update if any more issues occur. No news is good news. ... show more

  • Ordered this and got a 1.0 base station
Edition: Base Station 2.0
Update: after originally receiving a 1.0 base station, I returned it and got a replacement which was the correct 2.0 base station. I had no issue setting it up and it works perfectly with my valve index and the other two base stations I already had. Original review: In case this happens to anyone else, I ordered this to be a 3rd base station for my new valve index. But what I received was actually a 1.0 base station, which looks different from the pictures and is not compatible with the 2.0 base stations that came with my headset. 1.0 base stations have a flat front and a button on the back to select channel. 2.0 base stations have a curved front and no buttons. So if you order this and it's not working, make sure you actually got what you ordered! ... show more

  • Questionable Steam Policies / OverPriced
Edition: Base Station 2.0
Like 90% of other reviewers, I was forced to spend the extra $50 for the same product with out a wall mount, so add another $15+ to get the same product you, should, be able to get from steam, but when there is only one manufacturer, they get to set the rules. That said this base station has been working as intended for the short time I've had it, it'll be interesting to see which last longer, Steam does a much better job of shipping these base stations. ... show more
