  • A book on how to use 'THIS' Camera, not how to use 'A' Camera
For starters, this book is fantastic. Accurate, concise, to the point, and easy to follow along with. Sitting down with the A6000 and this book, it was extremely easy to bring up functions, see their effects, and make mental notes as to their usefulness when applied to my own shooting. That being said, most of the complaints with this book have to deal with it's "technicality" and not being newbie friendly. And they're kind of right, but they also miss the point of it. This is not a book teaching you how to take great photographs. It's a user manual for a camera, and it assumes a level of knowledge about general photography that you must already have. It will tell you how to adjust aperture, but it won't explain aperture and it's effects on your photograph. It will tell you how to set manual focus, and tools to assist in manual focusing, but it's not going to tell you what a focus ring is or how to use it. It will tell you how to adjust flash compensation, but will not tell you what types of flashes exist, or when and where you should use them. Those things are basic photographic knowledge, and you should buy an over-all photography basics book or course to learn them. If you have a handle on basic photographic terms and concepts, you'll have absolutely no problem using this book to get the most out of your A6000. If you are coming from a cell-phone or a point-and-shoot camera to the A6000, and do not have a basic grasp on how more hands-on photography works, you should still get this book. But you should also get a book on photography basics, and you should read that before you touch this one. Buying this without knowing the basics is like buying a car and expecting the owners manual to teach you how to pass your drivers license test. That's not it's purpose. ... show more

  • Very informative
The writer gives details about each maker and model. It seems unbiased material in the book providing limitations and options from a-z. All his books are also easy to read

  • Excellent book to learn the Sony A6000....with some reservations.
I give the book 4 stars because it contains a wealth of information on the Sony A6000. Everything you could want to know about the camera is in this book. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the author is so technical it will be difficult for an newcomer to digital photography to easily digest. And he will be explaining something in chapter 5 (for instance) and will refer you to the same topic back in chapter 1 or ahead in chapter 10. Information on any one topic is typically spread over 3 or 4 locations in the book, and the index is not very detailed or helpful to find all the information for any one subject. I have been in photography since the mid 60's and still find some of his discussion confusing. And I can only read 12-15 pages at a time before I get overloaded and have to put it down. If you want to know your Sony A6000 this is the book to get. Just beware that it is highly technical and LOADED with detailed information on each function which can be confusing at times. Illustrations and photos throughout the book are excellent and very helpful. ... show more

  • Sony ILCE-6000 owners - BUY THIS BOOK!
This book is filled with valuable information! The Sony users guides assume too much knowledge on the part of the user. I bought the camera to attach to a telescope. But the Sony-provided information on how to do that is very skimpy. Right after purchasing the camera, I took it with me to an astronomy expedition that included professional photographers. I asked for advice and was told the a6000 was indeed a good one for that purpose and was shown how to set some of the parameters. But the camera is very feature rich with only a few buttons, a wheel, and a dial to navigate them, much more complicated than the older Nikons, Sonys, and Olympus cameras I have used. It is all too easy to become lost in the feature forest. With the aid of this book, I now know how to set the parameters to take good photos with a telescopic lens as well as how to use the many other features it offers. I have the Kindle edition. The only complaint I have is that, like most Kindle books, the text can be zoomed but not the graphics. While the graphic displays of the camera are very sharp, the numbers in green dots in Figure 2-2 are hard to discern on the Kindle screen without a magnifying glass. In spite of that, I still prefer the Kindle version to the book version. ... show more

  • This book is way better than any manual because the author loves photography and teaching too! (In my HMO)
I love this book. I wish I had one for my other cameras. There is no real manual for this camera. For novice photographers it was a bummer and I felt like getting rid of it since I didn't know how to use all the bells and whistles. When I was trying to find a manual online I ran across this book as a suggestion. I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID! The author takes you from the beginning out of the box and builds on the use in each chapter. It is well written so that anyone (novice or expert) can read it and get something from it. He gives tips and extra comments about SONY and buying extra accessories. He instructs you not only what the camera can do but what it won't do either. For example he tells you whether the flash will work when you are using certain scene selections. No one would be able to figure that out with the limp noodle manual from Sony. The guy is coming from an expert's point of view. He is an awesome writer. Even if you didn't have the camera you would enjoy reading the book! I can't wait to implement all that I am reading. ... show more

  • First camera? You NEED this book!
The title should be taken literally; Sony a6000 Guide to Digital Photography. If this is your first non point & shoot camera and you are just starting out, this book is a MUST! It really is what the title says, it goes over all of the basics of photography and teaches from the point of this specific camera and goes on to explain every aspect of every feature, how to find it, and how to use it. I’ve been overwhelmed and feeling like I’m not getting anywhere for the 2 months I’ve owned my camera and bought the book to cross reference the generalized beginner photography info I was finding; but this book has that too! If this is your 1st camera-you NEED THIS BOOK! (And a nice pkg of page markers and hi-lighters too 😊) ... show more
