  • Excellent as Expected
Really thorough, well written manual as expected from David Busch. In 2004 I bought his guide for one of the first Nikon digital SLRs, the Nikon D70s, and it was also excellent and informative, not only about how to use the camera itself, but also with very useful and clearly stated information about how to shoot various kinds of photos in general. After that early manual, I expected this one to be excellent as well, and it is. Everything is clearly written and easy to understand. There are plenty of photos to illustrate pretty much every topic he discusses, and all the photos are extremely helpful. to your comprehension of a subject. The manuals (usually a downloadable PDF now) that come with cameras these days are not nearly as complete or easy to understand as camera guides such as this one. The Nikon manual might tell you what setting choices are, but it doesn't tell you why to choose a particular setting, whereas this guide tells you why you should or perhaps should not choose a setting. This is a great book to read to understand your new D5600, and after studying it, it is still a great reference that you will use down the road. Worth every penny and highly recommended, especially if you are new to digital cameras. The D5600 is a fabulous camera, and it's worth your time to fully understand all that it can do. ... show more

  • i have been a amateur photographer for over 50 ymovieears and his is a good read.
It covers the fundamentals; he gives his recommendations with the reasoning for them, and it gets "deep" if you want to go there. I had been using a D50 for about 15 years and got wonderful results for its 6.1 MP because I went no larger than 8 x 10. This camera is 24.2 MP and loaded with so many features no available in 2002 like bluetooth, internet connection, 1080p movies, etc. This book is getting me up to speed at a pace I like. You don't have to read the whole book - a true reference book. I recommend it. ... show more

  • This book is fantastic! I love it.
I'm just going to say, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I knew I was taking a chance buying the camera. Would I be able to utilize the features? Or should I have stayed with the simpler type? I love the camera. I am quite certain I wouldn't be enjoying it so if I didn't have this book to help me. I've had it 8 months and haven't had a need to search any farther for additional information. I'm amazed at how much is in here. I'm sure it would be a great book for someone with plenty of DSLR experience too. If you're searching for a book to go with your D5600, I highly recommend this one. The author, David D. Busch, has written other books as well. I'd be willing to bet are 5 star also. Mine was even autographed : ) Thanks Mr. Busch ... show more

  • Chock full of information, and a LONG slow read
This is our second Nikon camera in the family, so many of the things it does are already familiar to us. That said, there are also LOTS of differences, in particular in configuration and software features. Nikon doesn't provide any "manual" at all with the camera, but does have a downloadable manual. The primary differences between this book and the Nikon manual are discussions, sometimes lengthy, about WHY you'd do some particular thing rather than just how to do it. That's useful, but makes wading thru the almost 400 pages. I've given up n reading thru the entire book, now just browse it and look up specific features. I'm sure I'm missing lots of neat things this camera can do, but there are only so many hours in a month. ... show more

  • The Perfect Book for New DSLR Users!
This is an outstanding book! I am new to dslrs, having last used a 35 mm slr years ago. I was a little overwhelmed with my new D5600, but after a week with this book (and a few Mark Hemming Youtube videos) I feel at ease with the mechanics of how to use the camera and I am beginning to learn "how" to take nice photographs. Chapters 1 -5 were particularly helpful. I highly recommend this book! ... show more

  • More information than I found from Nikon.
The camera was much more complicated than I thought. The book has saved me a lot of trial and error to get decent pictures. I couldn’t even get subjects in sharp focus. The book is informative but I learned reading it alone doesn’t give you the practice you need to be any better than using a point and shoot camera. His suggestion of keeping a log or journal will help you retain more knowledge and serve as a reference. ... show more

  • Very Helpful!
I recently purchased a DSLR camera and had asked my sister to help me learn how to use it. Well, that didn’t go as planned, so I came to Amazon to look for a guide book to help me learn myself. I am so happy I found this book. It is easy to follow and I am learning something new every time I read more of it. I am getting to know my camera more and more each day. Very happy that I found this book. ... show more
