The book includes sample photos taken with the creative options of the camera, including the Picture Control settings, which alter color processing of images; the Creative and Scene shooting modes, with settings optimized for subjects such as the moon, birds, landscapes, pets, sunsets, and action shots; and the Coolpix P950’s features for burst shooting and time-lapse photography. In addition, the book provides introductions to topics such as street photography, infrared photography, and macro photography. The book also explains the video features of the P950, which can shoot 4K and HD video with stereo sound and can record high-speed video at speeds up to four times greater than normal. • Excellent, informative book
After recently purchasing a Nikon Coolpix P950 ultrazoom camera, I realized that lack of a complete printed manual would prohibit my learning all the features of this camera. I find reading an online version is clumsy and difficult and I had no interest in downloading and printing several hundred pages. Remember when cameras came with chunky little instruction manuals that covered everything you needed to know? Anyway, I decided to purchase Alexander White's book on this camera and am extremely glad I did. I'm about half-way through it, and it covers features I didn't know this camera had. It reveals how to access all the features and functions, is written in an easy-to-comprehend manner and is well-organized. In addition to teaching all aspects of the P950, it also includes lots of basic photography information that I'd either forgotten or never learned over the decades that I've been taking photographs. If you've purchased the Nikon Coolpix P950, I strongly recommend that you purchase this book; it will help you get the most out of your camera and will add considerably to your enjoyment of it. ... show more

  • Necessary if you want to get the most out of your camera!
Excellent book. Very well organized, clear, and down to the point. I learned so much. One of the tips the author gave, which seems obvious in hindsight, is that setting continuous shooting will limit your shutter speed. I tend to set all my cameras to continuous shooting, because I figure that if I need just one shot, I can take just one shot. If I need a burst, I can just hold down the shutter without having to change settings. But once you think about it, if you have 10 shots per second, for example, each shot has to be faster than 1/10 of a second. Even if you just take one shot. In this camera, the longest you can go with continuous shooting is 1/30 of a second. Once I learned that, I turned off continuous shooting and my photo quality increased. I was able to use lower ISO because the shutter speed was automatically set to slower. I will definitely buy another book from the same author for my other camera, Sony a6400. I've had it for years but I'm sure there's a lot I don't know and I'm excited to unlock more potential! ... show more

  • Great Guide, Horrible Second hand product
I got a used but in good condition, that was obviously NOT the case. The books itself is great and very useful, thankfully the important pages were in useable condition after I taped it together and ironed it out a bit. But honestly, at least half my $25 should be refunded to me.

  • IT Does What It's Supposed to Do
We purchased a new NIKON P950 Coolpix camera, but there was minimal documentation. That seems normal these days, they force you to go to the internet for a digital user manual. I agree you can find anything these days on YouTube or elsewhere, but for me this book is fantastic. What's great is it is easy to understand, written for a beginner and starts with how to get started taking quality photos quickly. I'm early into the book, but within a few chapters, I'm comfortable I can take good photos or videos, use the flash and tips on wide angle or tele-photo lens use. I have much more to learn, but feel this book is well worth the investment. Will I go through the whole book and learn every feature? I doubt it, but it's always there as a resource. I didn't buy the camera for professional use, it's for normal basic photography, but this camera ( called a point & shoot ) is way more sophisticated that what one would think is point & shoot. It has an amazing zoom lens and many excellent features for a fixed lens camera. ... show more

  • Had a similar book for the P900 - invaluable.
The instruction manual from Nikon for this camera, which has to be downloaded online since Nikon does not include it with the camera, is nice. It tells much about the camera and I'd rate it an 8 on a scale of 10. Then, there's Mr. White's book. He covers the functions of the camera in ways the manual does not. It's also not written like a manual; it's written so user's can understand it better. I'd rate it a SOLID 10 on a scale of 10. Having a similar book for my P900 was invaluable. Having this book for my P950 will, I'm sure, also be invaluable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ... show more

  • Essential for getting the best images
If you have the P950 you need this book. I use my camera for travel, birding and events. This book helps me get off auto modes and get better results. From learning the basics of aperture, iso, shutter and lighting to more advance concepts that are easily explained. My photos are so much better once I learned a few tricks from this book. I digested a chapter or two each day and just used what I learned as I snapped. I quickly found my images were sharper and better with less noise or blur. ... show more
