Used for the top of my dog kennel which is a retriever brand dog kennel with galvanized tubular steel pipes for the framework. I estimate the pipes are about 0.75 inches in diameter. I used an open ended wrench to install. I did not have a socket set that was deep enough to cinch these nuts down. The “bolt” portion is incredibly long for the size pipe I had. I’m not sure why it’s so long, really. If it were shorter it would have really cut down on my install time., by allowing me to use my impact. This is why I dropped it one star for install. Otherwise these work great and I’m very happy with my purchase and would buy them again regardless of the added install time. ... show more

I wanted to add polywire protection to the pasture gate to keep my pigs from rubbing and was looking for a way to attach insulators to the gate tubes. These insulators were perfect. They are good quality and come with hardware. It's a Behlen gate and the tubes were just slightly wider than the metal clamps so I used pliers to bend the metal clamp just a bit to fit through the insulator. It all tightened down so the insulators are very solidly on the tube. Following a youtube video, I used an insulated cable with alligator clips to connect the gate polywire to the fence polywire, so I can open the gate while it's still hot. ... show more

These are easy to install and won't slip. They grip the gate very well with even finger tightening the nuts. I was afraid I might damage them by overtightening the nuts so I was testing their grip as I gently tightened them. I did use a ratchet but I think a screwdriver style socket holder would have been just as good since the nuts don't need to be super tight. I'm very happy with them. Am ordering more for all of my gates. We have other gates where someone drilled holes in them and fastened wood post type insulators with screws. I didn't want to drill holes in our other gates so thought I'd try these. I didn't expect them to hold very well but they do. ... show more

Works perfect in my application of installing a 12 gauge hot wire pulled tight along the top of a 12' W x 24' L x 6' H chain link dog pen with 1 3/8" tube pipe. I was surprisingly pleased. These are much sturdier than they appear in the photos, and I was actually able to get them tight without breaking the plastic where the fittings penetrate the plastic. Th plastic is much thicker than I thought yet molded to the tube pipes. I was also concerned they would not be long enough vs. a 6" insulator as my dog goes bounding over the 6' height but they work exactly as I needed them to and once was enough to convince him with a low voltage electric fence. I used these for a chain link fence to hang poly tape and keep the horses from rubbing their butts on the fence. Also on a post and rail fence that was made with round metal posts. They work well for this. They will have a tendency to slip on small diameter posts if the hotwire gets yanked by a rowdy horse, but on the upside this sometimes prevents the insulator from being broken. The plastic these are made of is very tough as well. The ones that I needed not to move (next to gates) and where the posts were too large for the u-bolts (corner posts), I screwed them into the posts with self drilling screws. ... show more

Better than the description! These insulators can be used with both horizontal and vertical pipes -- the "rope" end has holes for both. I was also concerned that they might not fit the vertical pipes on my chain link fence that measured 1 -7/8" diameter, but the spread of the U-bolts is just shy of 2". Perfect product to run turbo wire across the top of a chain link fence to prevent Yogi from getting to my bee hives. ... show more
