  • Professional cutting mat takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. Highly recommended.
Size: A2 (24 x 18)
I previously used a 12"x18" cutting mat in my business, but as of a week ago, I can't find it for the life of me. My theory is I actually scooped it up with some 12"x18" prints I sell and shipped it to one of my customers. Alas, I was in need of a cutting mat since I use it often. So I began to research cutting mats both on Amazon and on manufacturers websites. I eventually landed on the DAFA mat because of it's specifications, positive reviews, and price. I opted to upgrade to a larger 18"x24" size because I regularly cut or trim 12"x18" sheets of paper, so wanted some extra room. Speaking of cutting, I only cut with sharp utility knives. (I do not cut with a rotary cutter, so I can't speak to that.) But what I can tell you, I just finished a day of cutting using a new utility blade and the mat still looks brand new. I cut both cardstock and cardboard (which required different pressure) and not a cut. The reviews that say this mat does not self-heal must be doing some extreme pressure cutting - as I don't see how it's possible with normal use to wear this cutting mat. I expect many years of use out of this mat. Regarding dimensions, the actual mat size is 17 11/16" x 24 7/16". One side has markings in inches, while the other side is in centimeters. The inch markings are every inch for a combined area of lines 17"x23". The centimeter markings are every 10 centimeters for a combined area of lines 430cm x 580cm. And the bonus, you really are getting two cutting surfaces in one which essentially doubles the life out of this cutting mat. This DAFA cutting mat was shipped flat in a big, thin box. After unwrapping, I did NOT notice a strong odor as the 1-star reviews have mentioned. Yes, there is a slight smell, kind of like how a new car has a new smell to it. After a day of laying open on a table, I no longer notice any odor when walking into the room. This DAFA cutting mat performs how I expect a mat twice the price should perform. Whether you are a light hobby user, or a full-time professional, I fully expect this cutting mat to perform equally in both environments. Very pleased with my purchase and it comes highly recommended. If my experience ever changes, I will update this review. ... show more

  • Stinks to high heaven
Size: A2 (24 x 18)
Imagine that your wife just left you for her Brazilian yoga instructor, taking the kids with her. Also, it’s your birthday. To celebrate you make a cake out of empty yogurt containers and an old bicycle tire. That doesn’t sit well so you end up puking into Sir Meows-a-lot’s litter box. A litter box that you haven’t cleaned for a week. That’s what this thing smells like. The odor from this thing is truly nauseating. It would be somewhat forgiven if it dissipated with time but after a week outside in the sun it still stinks up my garage. Avoid like Brazilian yoga instructors! Update: I bumped the rating up a bit because the smell did diminish to “good enough for the garage” level. It took 10 days in the sun to do so however. If you put it out in the sun be sure it’s on a level surface. I ended up with a small kink in one side that I can’t get rid of. That was my fault. ... show more

  • Absolutely mind-boggling
Size: A4 (12 x 9)
This is so weird. I didn't know self-healing mats were a thing! I sat here at my studio for like, 45 minutes cutting lines in it and watching them disappear. Only regret: I didn't buy a bigger mat! I don't really NEED a bigger mat, 12x9 was kind of perfect, I just want to cover my whole desk in this stuff now. --- 2/4/19 EDIT: Still looks brand new. Highly recommended :) ... show more

  • Yes, there is a smell
Size: A1 (36 x 24)
Solid quality, massive cutting mat. I've jammed some X-acto blades in there, and haven't left a permanent mark yet. Listed dimensions seem to be pretty close to accurate. Actual product may be 1/8-1/4" smaller in length and width, thickness seems to be spot on. The only drawback is, yes, there is a rather potent chemically-rubber smell that takes a long time to dissipate after arrival. Took about a month for the smell to finally clear out of my craft room/lab with the door left open. ... show more

  • Better than Olfa
Size: A1 (36 x 24)
I was going to get another Olfa, but they didn't have the largest size, so thought I'd try this brand. I like it better. It's smooth as silk and heavy duty. I work with leather, so I've already 'abused' this with hole punches, needles, rotary cutters, utility knives, and corner blade cutters and I can't find a mark on it so far. It has imperial on one side, metric on the other, so I can flip it over depending on the project. ... show more

  • GOOD QUALITY CUTTING MATS
Size: A1 (36 x 24)
As a professional seamstress/upholsterer I use my cutting tools daily. Since I work with large pieces of fabric I tape the 2 boards together to make 1 large board but still can disconnect them when I don't need the larger surface. I just received my 2 new cutting boards. They arrived in perfect condition. The boards are thicker than the previous boards I've used. They also have grid lines on both sides. Overall I am very happy with the quality, price and fairly fast shipping time (all my shipments from Amazon have been slower than normal). I would definitely recommend this item to any sewing persons and crafters. ... show more

  • You Really Need One
Size: A1 (36 x 24)
If you do a lot of straight-line cutting, this is just the ticket. Paired with a Rotary Cutter tool you will save at least 50% of the time cutting. If it was not for the times measuring a massive project, cutting on this mat made completion a breeze. Probably could have used a smaller size, but in the end, was glad I had the 34inch by 24inch size and now a permit covering for my work surface and does not curl. Don't limit your thinking that it is only for fabric cutting and works great with a Xacto knife. Read the product description as everything said is true. ... show more

  • Not a self-healing mat but it is sturdy
Size: A3 (18 x 12)
I looked at other mats in the store for the same price and this mate is a better quality, however it is not self-healing. I used it to cut and trim pieces for a quilt I am making and the mat is scared with numerous cuts from the cutting wheel. I've had to scrap off the threads that had gotten wedged into the cuts. But all in all, I do like the thickness and I'll deal with the lack of self-healing though it may not last as long, but I do have two sides. Also, it arrived when it was promised. ... show more
