Purchased this Butter Wheel for a friend who serves up grilled gourmet burgers one a week for a charity fund raiser. His burgers are a hit, but the buns needed a fast, reliable way to toast on the grill. The Butter Wheel was the answer! He keeps it on the warm side of his grill so the butter is melted, but not scorched. An assistant brushes the inside of the bun down the wheel to evenly coat, drops it butter side down on the flat top and happy, happy customers love the flavor and crispy texture. Why this product: anyone who has eaten buttered, toasted hamburger and hotdog buns knows that they make burgers and dogs even more delicious! A friend who runs a restaurant showed me this product and I thought I needed it for our big summer BBQs. After trying it out several times, I came to these conclusions: In order to be effective, I need to load it to start with at least half a pound of butter; I would only use this when I have to butter more than about 20 buns (less than that and I just prefer to stick to a butter spatula for softened or a basting brush for liquid butter); it is designed to only work when the butter is melted and there is plenty of butter in it, so either keep it near a heat source, or melt your butter in a separate pot; be careful when picking it up as the metal may be hot; the vessel design feels and looks very modern like other Cuisineart products on top, but be careful of the stand part below - the edges of the feet are sharp and seem less refined. Cleaning: this is not very convenient to clean and it’s hard not to waste some butter - unless you have a plan to conserve the butter by pouring it out to save while it’s still in liquid form. Remove as much butter as possible before cleaning in the sink with hot, soapy water and a soft brush, or running it through the dishwasher. Who is this for: this product is not really for most home cooks or backyard BBQers; it is designed for people who make and serve a lot of burgers and/or dogs and have time to prep. ... show more

I bought these for our local senior center. They run a concession for bingo. I and the women that I'm run it love this item. Just roll the rolls or buns or it and presto their buttered. Quicker than using a brush, and use less butter

Overall, it’s a great idea. Unfortunately, it takes about 1.5 sticks of butter before it touches the wheel. Design needs updating so the wheel sits lower. There’s a lot of butter that gets wasted the way it is now. Other than wasting butter, it works as advertised. I’ve given up on the wheel & use the tray for melting queso & butter to spread on various dishes. ... show more
