  • Works really well, but long time for cycles
Read the manual, it is very helpful. This unit has multiple cycles, or modes. To restore or charge a battery. Once the type of battery is selected, AEG or regular, then it goes through various cycles of sensing, charging, restoring/reconditioning and then maintaining charge long term for a car battery. There are cable attachment choices, clamps or rings to attach with bolts. Takes many hours but does it's work effectively. Manual gives the time duration of various stages. Charged a battery fully, that was getting an error on our black & decker charger (F02 internal short or something). Size is very compact and a pouch case is included. ... show more

  • A "must buy"
Product is excellent in every respect--easy to use, easy-to-understand user manual, swift delivery, and it worked! That said, I'm not sure if the videos showing users attaching the charger's negative clip to the battery's negative post is safe. Shouldn't the clip be attached instead to the vehicle's chassis or engine block away from the battery, as described in the user's manual, page 6? ... show more

  • Works great!
Great product. Saw Scottsrides on IG using one w great results. Same here. Works perfect. Very cool they give you 2 diff ways to connect it. I chose the ring terminals for long term, solid connection. I installed it on my battery and Tie wrapped it to the wiring for security. Now it’s a quick click on and off when I want to connect or disconnect it. Soon as it was plugged in, it knew the type of battery it was connected to, and went to work. I leave it on for a slow long term charging and battery conditioning. ... show more

  • Works well but poorly documented
Modern automobiles have the very unpleasant characteristic that the on board electronics draw battery current even when the ignition has been switched off. After several weeks of nonuse you need to call battery service or use jumper cables. In the past, we could leave the car in the long term parking lot at the airport and we had no worries about the battery becoming discharged. That is no longer true. The CTEK battery charger works well but the manual is a mess. The charger has a MODE button to select the charge program displayed by a set of 4 LED lights. The charging is done in 8 steps: #1 thru #4 will charge the battery to 80% and these are followed by #5 which is a short ANALYSE step checking if the battery discharges too fast by itself, in which case the ERROR lamp turns on. If it does not, you can start the car. The confusion starts at step #6 which is RECOND. The manual does not say it is supposed to be used only once a year to recondition the battery and the table from the manual makes you believe it is part of the normal sequence. In order to activate it you must select RECOND from the initial mode selection displayed by the two LEDs showing the car symbol and RECOND. Unless the RECOND was selected, after a short time the charger jumps to steps #7 and #8 which are for maintaining the battery by trickle charging. The safety instructions take almost as much space as the operating instructions. They stress the danger of disconnecting wires close to the battery which might be emitting hydrogen and cause an explosion. The advice given is to connect the negative cable to the chassis away from the battery so that a possible spark would not ignite the gas. However, the distance between the two clips is not long enough to reach any unpainted part of the chassis on my car. This recommendation is good when using jumper cables but since the charger itself can be unplugged from the power outlet, it is easy to first connect the wires to the battery and only then to plug the charger in. When finished we first unplug the charger from the power outlet and then disconnect from the battery. An very useful extension cable can be purchased separately. The connectors have O rings for waterproofing. If confused by the manual instructions, CTEK has a very good customer support. I received prompt replies to my e-mailed questions and the same support person answered the phone and clarified the rest. In conclusion: 5 stars for the product and the customer support, and only 3 for the manual. ... show more
