  • Needs lots of work before it operates at full potential, get ready to fix many issues from factory.
Style: 8"x16"
First of all, I'm hesitant to recommend this lathe, as the state it arrived was essentially inoperable. But once I followed some procedures to tune it all up, it works surprisingly well. Threading, knurling and cutting operations goes very smoothly, it is a quite capable little machine. So if you are not looking for a project to repair a new lathe, then I would avoid this. Issues upon arrival: All the screws were loose, the main electronic enclosure was hanging on by a thread. The gibs and carriage needed to be completely tighten up. The tailstock casting was out of square, to which I had a milling machine to correct, but you can probably get shim stock to fix this as well. The tail stock is probably it's weakest link, it is not convenient to adjust and requires a lot of tweaking to get it aligned properly. Minor annoyances: For threading, there is no thread indicator, so you have to keep the leadscrew engage. I don't plan to thread too much, but this is just a minor inconvenience. Another annoying thing is when you are threading and switch to reverse, it turns the motor off completely, so you have to turn it back on. This just adds more time and inconvenience to threading. The change gears work fine, but are a bit finicky to play with. When adjusting the motor speed, there's a bit of a dead spot at the low-end of the rpm, so it makes threading slightly sketchy as you have to bump the rpm up first to get it going and then turn it down. I tend to reverse it farther from the thread as to give me time to adjust the rpm once the thread tool engages. Recommended immediate upgrades: Get a 250-000 oxa quick change post, you'll not regret it. Makes tool changing simple and quick. Also, get a bellow way cover to keep the chips off the ways. If you plan to use carbide inserts for steel turning, get the aluminum cutting type (search "carbide aluminum insert", it's the almost shiny type finish insert), as it has a sharper cutting edge and helps with these mini lathes bite into steel a bit better. For the compound slide, lock it down for 90% of the time you don't need to use it, as it adds more rigidity to the cuts and gives a nicer finish. ... show more

  • A lot of work to get it right
Style: 8"x14"
First off got the crate. Opened it up and tail stock was loose and a little damaged. Also bent some of the shielding. Plugged it in and ran it, it works!!!. The variable pot is very inconsistent. I could get it down to 500 rpm but below that it fluctuated alot. Tryed turning a piece of square aluminum and I guess I went to fast and blew a fuse. Lucky they provided a spare. Want to replace fuse and fuse holder broke. Ok take off the backe 6 screws and replaced fuse holder. Not good for a new product. Guess I will try and make it work. Alot of loose screws. ... show more

  • Not great but useable
Style: 8"x16"
This is an inexpensive table lathe. It took some cleaning, but all in all not bad. The one issue that keeps raising it's ugly head is the tail stock will not hold fast if drilling a hole into stock in the chuck. I just cut some wood pieces to put between the tail stock and the tail stock retainer bolt. It will stall at slower speeds. The variable speed will actually speed up if it gets into to much work. Reducing the load and it runs just fine. I use it for small home and light auto refinishing and for that it is a good fit for me. ... show more

I'm pretty sure that the chuck and bed shouldn't be covered in a deep rust! I haven even bothered to run the lathe yet, I've got several days of cleaning to do before I even think about it! I'm a beginner but so far I've found this machine to be very nice for a mini lathe, only had to tighten a few screws and adjust the tail stock a little. recommend this set as starter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SSRD631?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
