CAUTION: Do not use with a variable speed controller. Warning: Not a smart home friendly fan. This is a direct current (DC) ceiling fan. No separate wire for light control. Must use the stupid controller provided. Variable speed controllers like adjustable ceiling fan switches or dimmers adjust the AC (alternating current) voltage sent to the fan to manage the speed. Those types of switches will burn out a DC ceiling fan like this one. I'm setting up a smart home and have been looking for an AC ceiling fan to work with my smart switches which adjust the voltage to control the speed. This fan renders my smart switches unusable. The only reference as to AC or DC I could find was a warning about installing the blades. There is no other statement or warning about not using dimmers or variable speed controllers. The description page indicates the fan requires an AC power source; that's it. There is no technical specifications sheet that came with the fan or warning about using variable speed controllers, so I called the company. They were a a bit rude when I inquired to the motor type even though I stated there was no technical spec sheet. At this point, I'm not expecting any better customer support if I do have issue. Lastly, only one power line goes to this ceiling fan/light combo. This fan is not designed to control the light on one switch and the fan on another switch. Ugh!!! Soo...I gave it two stars because it's pretty. I took off three stars because the misrepresentation of the product, slightly rude customer support, smart switch unsuitability, and inability to manage the light on a separate switch.
