She uses it as a foot stool, side table (flip the lid), and I use it to sit on. I weigh 170. My husband weighs 240 and sat on it with no problems. The fabric is not thin and appears to be of good quality. It is soft and has plenty of cushion for a comfy sit. We put her puzzle books and iPad in the storage area (with room left to add other items) which is not huge but sufficient.
