I tried this hammock on my last camping trip, as my current hammock didnt have mosquito netting and I wanted to see how well it keeps out the critters. I should start by saying that the hammock is the best part of the package, as the other components seem just thrown in with whatever was lowest cost. The carabiners are steel. Strong but heavy. The straps are also strong but heavy and bulky. Finally the aluminum arcs, which are very light and seem strong, don't tend to stay up by themselves, but at least they do keep the mosquito netting away from your face. All these small concerns were quickly taken care of, I substituted my own aluminum carabiners and ultralight straps from my other hammock which cut down substantially on weight. I also added a length of elastic cord (the smaller 1/8" stuff) along the inside ridgeline to keep the netting a bit higher. That was after I took the photos. There are pockets inside the hammock for your headlamp or phone and glasses for example. I used a a good military style poncho as a tarp over it on a separate ridgeline to keep the rain off, but it didnt rain on that trip. The first night I was attacked by mosquitos trough the underside, so the next night I laid my big microfiber towel under myself as a barrier and that took care of them. Keep this in mind if you use this hammock, there is no mosquito net on the underside. I could have also used my sleeping pad. One nice feature of this hammock is that with the provided arches/spreaders you could use it as a sort of tent on the ground. You just need one stake on each end and the arches will stay up, help upright by the mosquito net. You will have to lay a ground sheet under it as the bottom fabric is not waterproof, but it works. You would also need a larger tarp that the poncho I used in case of rain, but the whole package can be pretty light and compact and will allow you to camp either way with the same equipment. I think this hammock is a fantastic value for the price and a good starting point for a functional and versatile setup for backpacking or bike camping. ... show more

Jack of all trades master of none. This hammock does a good job as both a hammock and a ground bivy, but it isn't the best at either. It's best attribute is its versatility. As a hammock it is nice to have the aluminum hoops to hold up the bug net so you can relax bug free. Other hammocks lack the aluminum hoops and use a ridgeline instead to hold up the bug netting. Most of the time I prefer the ridgeline method because with this hammock you cannot make the part you lay in tight. It sags in a bathtub shape. It is still comfortable to lay in but I prefer a straight hammock hang because I find that more comfortable. With the poles removed and the hammock flipped over so the bug net is on the bottom you can then pull the hammock tight if that's what you prefer. As a ground bivy you have about 17 inches of space from the ground to the top of the mesh. If you are over 6 feet tall you might not want to use this on the ground because that is about the limit to comfortably lay in it on the ground. As a hammock taller than 6 feet is no problem, just as a bivy. To use as a bivy it will be great in dry weather, but if rain is expected you will need a tarp to go over you and probably a groundsheet under you because the floor is not waterproof. If you already tarp camp this is not a bad addition for buggy areas since you get the additional benefit of a hammock to relax in camp. One star off for a minor gripe about the zipper. The zipper path follows the length of the hammock on one side where the hammock meets the mesh. It goes the entire length. It would have been better to make the zipper go up at the poles to allow getting in and out easier. It is not a major flaw but there is a little room for improvement there. ... show more

I have several camping hammocks and this one is my favorite. The ones with nets usually require some janky tying to get the nets out of your face while sleeping. Not so with this one! The tent poles are GENIUS! It's easy to set up and ensures that you don't sleep with an annoying, claustrophobic net in your face. If you sleep cross-hammock, you need to adjust slightly with the poles in, but they still work fine and don't get in the way. ... show more

Good basic comfortable light hammock with the cool feature of a screen tent. And it worked, kid fell asleep in the hammock after playing all day at the river and did not get bit by mosquitoes. But when he rolled over onto the screen, the screen ripped out and then it dumps you on the ground. So it's a cool hammock/tent if you don't roll around. I go camping with my family weekly and we needed an extra hammock for my large husband. He is 6'4 and 240lbs and it has been hard to find a hammock that is not only strong enough to hold him, but comfortable too. He LOVES IT! Easy assembly by just anchoring it by wrapping the hook points around a tree and tightening. He fits in it with plenty of room to spare and fell asleep in the first 5 minutes.
